This is a descriptive, quantitative, cross-sectional study of how ACPE Certified Educators (CEs) allocated their time among varied responsibilities in calendar year 2021. Using a structured interview assisted survey instrument, 25 CEs at academic medical centers/university teaching hospitals were surveyed via Zoom/Phone. Results found a median commitment of 58% of time on clinical pastoral education (CPE) activities (38% to teaching and 20% to administration). CEs (7) who also serve as Spiritual Care Department directors/managers spent 45% on CPE and 30% on department activities. Sixteen of the CEs strongly or somewhat agreed that CE involvement in direct patient/family/staff care was important, yet median CE involvement in such care was 5%. Future studies should examine CE time commitment levels in a broader sample of ACPE accredited institutions.

This study investigates the language used in experiential education resources from 144 Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE)-accredited Schools of Pharmacy regarding mental health-related absences. While attendance policies at Schools of Pharmacy accommodate medical conditions, the lack of explicit mental health language can leave students uncertain about what is considered excused. Analyzing experiential education resources, the study found that 55% of available documents explicitly stated experiential education attendance requirements but only 3% included explicit mental health terminology for absences.

Importance: High-flow nasal oxygen (HFNO) and noninvasive ventilation (NIV) are commonly used respiratory support therapies for patients with acute respiratory failure (ARF).
Objective: To assess whether HFNO is noninferior to NIV on the rates of endotracheal intubation or death at 7 days in 5 patient groups with ARF.
Design, Setting, And Participants: This noninferiority, randomized clinical trial enrolled hospitalized adults (aged ≥18 years; classified as 5 patient groups with ARF: nonimmunocompromised with hypoxemia, immunocompromised with hypoxemia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease [COPD] exacerbation with respiratory acidosis, acute cardiogenic pulmonary edema [ACPE], or hypoxemic COVID-19, which was added as a separate group on June 26, 2023) at 33 hospitals in Brazil between November 2019 and November 2023 (final follow-up: April 26, 2024).

Objective: ACPE newly approved standards for PharmD programs (Standards 2025) indicates that colleges should maintain a student-to-faculty ratio of no greater than 10:1. This may have significant implications for colleges that are currently above the 10:1 ratio; yet, little published evidence exists for using 10:1 as the threshold for determining whether a college has sufficient faculty.
