In this brief report, we present laser induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) evidence of deuterium (D) production in a 3:1 urethane dimethacrylate (UDMA) and triethylene glycol dimethacrylate (TEGDMA) polymer doped with resonant gold nanorods, induced by intense, 40 fs laser pulses. The in situ recorded LIBS spectra revealed that the D/(2D + H) increased to 4-8% in the polymer samples in selected events. The extent of transmutation was found to linearly increase with the laser pulse energy (intensity) between 2 and 25 mJ (up to 3 × 10W/cm). The observed effect is attributed only to the field enhancing effects due to excited localized surface plasmons on the gold nanoparticles.

The Nozaki-Hiyama-Kishi reaction offers effective and reliable strategies for the preparation of alcohols via carbon-carbon bond formation. Typical methods usually require stoichiometric amounts of chromium salts, co-transition metals, and auxiliary reagents, which limits their practical application in industrial chemistry. To mitigate these limitations, substantial efforts have been made to develop chromium-catalytic approaches.

An aryl radical assay is used to provide information about the formation of aryl radicals from aryl halides in coupling reactions to arenes in the presence of palladium sources and under LED irradiation (λ = 456 nm). The assay uses 2-halo--xylenes as substrates. Aryl radical formation is indicated both by a defined product composition and by signature deuterium isotope effects.

Electrochemical reductive deuteration of nitriles is a promising strategy for synthesizing deuterated amines with DO as the deuterated source. However, this reaction suffers from high overpotentials owing to the sluggish DO dissociation kinetics and high thermodynamic stability of the C≡N triple bond. Here, low-coordinated copper (LC-Cu) is designed to decrease the overpotential for the electrosynthesis of the precursor of Melatonin-d, 5-methoxytryptamine-d, by 100 mV with a 68 % yield (Faradaic efficiency), which is 4 times greater than that of high-coordinated copper (HC-Cu).

Here, we demonstrate that lactate is essential for nucleotide biosynthesis in pediatric diffuse midline gliomas (DMGs). The oncogenic histone H3K27M mutation upregulates phosphoglycerate kinase 1 (PGK1) and drives lactate production from [U- C]-glucose in DMGs.

The ligand-free Lewis acid-mediated regioselective hydroamination and hydroarylation of styrenes have been successfully developed in the presence of isatins or heterocyclic aryl compounds such as benzothiophenes and benzofurans. The reactions tolerate a variety of functional groups and afford the corresponding products in moderate to good yields. Deuterium labeling experiments show that the functionalized hydrogen of styrenes was derived from the nitrogen-hydrogen of the substrates in the hydroamination.
