Quantifying light elements such as carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen in a transmission electron microscope (TEM) is a challenging however essential task in biology, materials, or earth and planetary sciences. We have developed an approach that allows precise quantification by energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDXS), using sensitive windowless silicon drift detectors and homemade Python routines for hyperspectral data processing. K-factors were determined using wedge-shaped focused ion beam sections. To correct for X-ray absorption within the sample, the sample mass thickness is determined by the-revisited-two-lines method (Morris, 1980). No beam current measurement is required. Applying this method to the K and L lines of iron, we found that the tabulated mass absorption coefficient at the energy of the iron L lines was too low. This is due to X-ray self-absorption at the iron edge. Using reference material, we experimentally determined an absorption coefficient that gave the expected results. We then analyzed the complex phyllosilicate mixture of the Orgueil meteorite. We show that the N/C ratio of organics can be obtained with an accuracy better than 5 at.% and that oxygen can be quantified accurately enough to infer the hydroxyl content of phyllosilicates.

Polyphenols, as one of the primary compounds produced by plant secondary metabolism, have garnered considerable attention because of their non-toxic, environmentally friendly, and biodegradable properties, as well as their notable medicinal value. This study presents a metabolomic analysis of polyphenols from 11 woody plants, including , , and , investigating a total of 40 polyphenolic metabolites. A differential metabolite dynamics map highlighted the five most differentiated substances among the 11 plants, including vitexin, dihydromyricetin, genistin, resveratrol, and isorhamnetin.

The elevated glutathione (GSH) level and hypoxia in tumor cells are two key obstacles to realizing the high performance of phototherapy. Herein, the electron-donating rotors are introduced to wings of electron-withdrawing pyrrolopyrrole cyanine (PPCy) to form donor-acceptor-donor structure -aggregates for amplified superoxide radical generation, GSH depletion, and photothermal action for hypoxic cancer phototherapy to tackle this challenge. Three PPCy photosensitizers (PPCy-H, PPCy-Br, and PPCy-TPE) produce hydroxyl radicals (•OH) and superoxide radicals (O) in hypoxia tumors exclusively as well as excellent photothermal performances under light irradiation.

As a crucial source of protein absorption in people's daily life, the quality of milk powder products not only has a deep impact on the development of the dairy industry, but also seriously damages the health of consumers. It is of great significance to find a faster and more accurate method for detecting milk protein content.

Halide perovskites (HPs) are emerging as key materials in the fight against global warming with well recognized applications, such as photovoltaics, and emergent opportunities, such as photocatalysis for methane removal and environmental remediation. These current and emergent applications are enabled by a unique combination of high absorption coefficients, tunable band gaps, and long carrier diffusion lengths, making them highly efficient for solar energy conversion. To address the challenge of discovery and optimization of HPs in huge chemical and compositional spaces of possible candidates, this perspective discusses a comprehensive strategy for screening HPs through automated high-throughput and combinatorial synthesis techniques.

With the rapid development of industrialization and urbanization, the impact of noise on people's health has become an increasingly serious issue, but it is still a challenge for the reducing the noise due to its complex property. Textiles with many loose porous structures have gained much significant attentions, thus chenille yarns with plush fibers on the surface, and polyester monofilament were chosen to fabricate the integrated knitting yarns, and their fundamental and mechanical properties were fully evaluated. The results showed that the diameter and braiding angle of the blended yarns decreased with the increase of pitch, resulting in a linear correlation of R > 0.
