In this work, polypropylene (PP) and PP/poly(ethylene--octene) (PP/POE) blend replica surfaces with densely arranged nanowires are fabricated using a molding process. Morphology analysis shows that the nanowires on these replica surfaces have sharp tips and high aspect ratios. The droplet impact behaviors on the surfaces of the PP/POE blend replicas and PP replicas are investigated before and after freezing at -20 °C for 4 h. The height of the nanowires on the PP/POE blend replica surfaces is higher than that on the PP surface before and after freezing. The static wettability and droplet impact tests on the surfaces of PP/POE blend replicas and PP replica show that adding POE into the PP matrix can significantly increase the toughness of the nanowires on the PP/POE blend replica surfaces during the droplet impact at low temperatures. These investigations are favorable to broaden the practical applications of superhydrophobic surfaces in some severe environments.

Background: Short dentin etching, a relatively recent technique, aims to improve resin-dentin bonding by preserving hydroxyapatite crystals within the collagen spaces. This study explores short dentin etching's potential in mitigating over-etching issues in deep proximal dentin/cementum margins, an aspect not previously investigated. This study evaluates the microtensile bond strength (μTBS) and marginal adaptation of two universal adhesives using different etch-and-rinse strategies (15-second and 3-second etching) and self-etch strategies, both immediate and post-thermal cycling and mechanical loading.

Studies of modeling processes have provided important insights in human evolutionary discipline. Most of these studies are based on facial bones and in much lesser extent on other bones such as those from the cranial vault. Thus, this study fills a gap in research by examining occipital bone modeling in subadults, adding individuals under 2 years old and expanding the sample size available to date.

The separation and structural identification of glycans are of great bioanalytical importance. To obtain a good understanding of the structural flexibility of glycans, replica exchange molecular dynamics (REMD) simulations were used based on AMBER force field calculations to create ensembles of glycan structures. Nonpolar surface area (NPSA) calculations based on continuum solvation (CS) models (Dhakal, R.

The molecular energy transfer is crucial for many different physicochemical processes. The efficiency of traditional resonance energy transfer relies on dipole-dipole distance between molecules and becomes negligible when the distance is larger than ∼10 nm, which is difficult to overcome. Cavity polariton, formed when placing molecules inside the cavity, is a promising way to surmount the distance limit.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the effect of crystallization and finish line curvature on the integrity of lithium disilicate crowns fabricated by using partially crystallized (P) and fully crystallized (F) blocks.
Materials And Methods: Forty-eight lithium disilicate crowns were fabricated based on the designated lithium disilicate blocks and finish line curvatures. The specimens were divided into four groups (n = 12 each): P block with a curved finish line (PC), P block with a straight finish line (PS), F block with a curved finish line (FC), and F block with a straight finish line (FS).
