Background: The term 'remote diagnosis' in telemedicine describes the procedure wherein medical practitioners diagnose patients remotely by using telecommunications technology. With this method, patients can obtain medical care without having to physically visit a hospital, which can be helpful for people who live in distant places or have restricted mobility. When people in the past had health issues, they were usually sent to the hospital, where they received clinical examinations, diagnoses, and treatment at the facility.

Development of a rehabilitation programme for young adult cancer survivors using co-production.

Res Involv Engagem

December 2024

User Perspectives and Community-based Interventions, Department of Public Health, University of Southern Denmark, Odense, Denmark.

Background: Young adult cancer survivors, defined as individuals aged 18-39 who have completed primary curative treatment, face numerous age-specific biopsychosocial late effects that impact health-related quality of life negatively. Rehabilitation can enhance participation in life roles, work, leisure activities and health-related quality of life. However, there is a lack of age-specific cancer rehabilitation for this population, leaving many young adults with diminished self-efficacy in managing their challenges, resulting in unmet needs.

Background: Appropriate language use is essential to ensure inclusion of diverse populations in research. We aimed to identify possible language-related barriers regarding the informed consent process and propose interventions to improve clarity and understanding of pregnant and breastfeeding women participating in research.

Methods: A cross-sectional qualitative study employing focus group discussions (FGD) was conducted in Uganda from August 2023 to September 2023, involving a diverse group of stakeholders from the community, including community members, research participants, and Community Advisory Board members.

Partial-linear single-index Cox regression models with multiple time-dependent covariates.

BMC Med Res Methodol

December 2024

Division of Biostatistics, Department of Population Health, New York University Grossman School of Medicine, 180 Madison Avenue, New York, NY, USA.

Background: In cohort studies with time-to-event outcomes, covariates of interest often have values that change over time. The classical Cox regression model can handle time-dependent covariates but assumes linear effects on the log hazard function, which can be limiting in practice. Furthermore, when multiple correlated covariates are studied, it is of great interest to model their joint effects by allowing a flexible functional form and to delineate their relative contributions to survival risk.
