Hybrid vigor in plants confers better agronomically significant traits in offspring compared with either parent. Recently, Wang et al. reported a mitosis instead of meiosis (MiMe) system in tomato for clonal gamete production, showing the potential to exploit autopolyploid progressive heterosis by stacking genomes from four grandparents in tetraploid hybrids, developed from crossing MiMe hybrids.

Apurinic/apyrimidinic (AP) sites are endogenous DNA lesions widespread in human cells. Having no nucleobases, they are noncoding and promutagenic. AP site repair is generally initiated through strand incision by AP endonuclease 1 (APE1).

In-silico prediction of protein biophysical traits is often hindered by the limited availability of experimental data and their heterogeneity. Training on limited data can lead to overfitting and poor generalizability to sequences distant from those in the training set. Additionally, inadequate use of scarce and disparate data can introduce biases during evaluation, leading to unreliable model performances being reported.

Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) is a non-coding RNA longer than 200 nucleotides, crucial for functions like cell cycle regulation and gene transcription. Accurate localization prediction from sequence information is vital for understanding lncRNA's biological roles. Computational methods offer an effective alternative to traditional experimental methods for annotating lncRNA subcellular positions.

Golgi abnormalities have been linked to aging and age-related diseases, yet the underlying causes and functional consequences remain poorly understood. This study identifies the interaction between age-associated zinc deficiency and Golgi stress as a critical factor in cellular aging. Senescent Golgi bodies from human fibroblasts show a fragmented Golgi structure, associated with a decreased interaction of the zinc-dependent Golgi-stacking protein complex Golgin45-GRASP55.

Motivation: Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats (CRISPR)-Cas9 system is a ground-breaking genome editing tool, which has revolutionized cell and gene therapies. One of the essential components involved in this system that ensures its success is the design of an optimal single-guide RNA (sgRNA) with high on-target cleavage efficiency and low off-target effects. This is challenging as many conditions need to be considered, and empirically testing every design is time-consuming and costly.
