Gemini surfactants have become the research focus of novel excellent inhibitors because of their special structure (two amphiphilic moieties covalently connected at head group by a spacer) and excellent surface properties. It is proved by theoretical calculations that 1, 3-bis (dodecyl dimethyl ammonium chloride) propane (BDDACP) molecules can perform electron transfer with Fe (110). And it has a small fraction free volume, thus greatly reducing the diffusion and migration degree of corrosive particles. The potentiodynamic polarization curve showed that coefficients of cathodic and anodic reaction less than 1 and polarization resistance increased to 1602.9 Ω cm after added BDDACP, confirming that BDDACP significantly inhibited the corrosion reaction by occupying the active site. The electrochemical impedance spectrum of imperfect semi-circle shows that the system resistance increases and double layer capacitance after added BDDACP. Weight loss tests also confirmed that BDDACP forms protective film by occupying the active sites on steel surface, and the maximum inhibition efficiency is 92 %. Comparison of the microscopic morphology showed that steel surface roughness was significantly reduced after added BDDACP. The results of time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry show that steel surface contains some elements from BDDACP, which confirms the adsorption of BDDACP on steel surface.

Scale-Up of Nanocorundum Synthesis by Mechanochemical Dehydration of Boehmite.

Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung, Kaiser-Wilhelm-Platz 1, D-45470 Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany.

This work presents the scale-up of room-temperature mechanochemical synthesis of nanocorundum (high-surface-area α-AlO) from boehmite (γ-AlOOH). This transformation on the 1 g scale using a laboratory shaker mill had previously been reported. High-energy Simoloyer ball mills equipped with milling chambers of sizes ranging from 1 to 20 L were used to scale up the mechanochemical nanocorundum synthesis to the 50 g to 1 kg scale, which paves the way to further increase batch size.

The objective of this work was to explore the capabilities of a field emission gun scanning electron microscope (FEG-SEM) equipped with a transmission scanning electron detector (TSEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) to identify nanoscale chemical heterogeneities in a gas atomization reaction synthesis (GARS) steel sample. The results of this analysis were compared to the same study conducted with scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) with EDS mapping. TSEM-EDS was performed using the standard spectral analysis approach, i.

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are carcinogenic compounds resulting from incomplete burning of organic materials. This work describes the successful layer-by-layer fabrication of a novel zinc oxide nanocomposite made of zinc oxide nanoparticles, aniline, sodium dodecyl sulfate, and modified multi-walled carbon nanotubes on a stainless steel wire by electrodeposition. The coating and extraction conditions were screened, optimized, and validated using factorial design and central composite design, respectively.

The corrosion of low-alloy steel in ethanolamine solution, simulating steam generator chemistry, is studied by in situ chronopotentiometry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy combined with ex situ analysis of the obtained oxide films and model calculations. Hydrodynamic calculations of the proposed setup to study flow-assisted corrosion demonstrate that turbulent conditions are achieved. Quantum chemical calculations indicate the adsorption orientation of ethanolamine on the oxide surface.

Fischer-Tropsch synthesis (FTS) in a 3D-printed stainless steel (SS) microchannel microreactor was investigated using Fe@SiO catalysts. The catalysts were prepared by two different techniques: one pot (OP) and autoclave (AC). The mesoporous structure of the two catalysts, Fe@SiO (OP) and Fe@SiO (AC), ensured a large contact area between the reactants and the catalyst.
