Background And Objectives: Approximately 9% of people who are exposed to a nonbenzodiazepine sedative-hypnotic medication ("z-drug") misuse this medication, yet, the reasons why people misuse z-drugs are not well-characterized.
Methods: Using population survey data, we examined gender and age differences in motives for z-drug misuse.
Results: Results suggested women and older adults have higher odds of misusing z-drugs for sleep, and young adults have higher odds of misusing for recreation.
Discussion And Conclusions: Although the majority of people who misuse z-drugs report misusing to manage sleep, this is particularly common in women and older adults.
Scientific Significance: Addressing inadequately treated sleep concerns may help mitigate z-drug misuse.

Background/objective: Physical literacy (PL) is "the motivation, confidence, physical competence, knowledge, and understanding to value and take responsibility for engagement in physical activities for life". Recent evidence has shown that PL was associated with mental wellbeing in different populations, yet a comprehensive review examining the association between PL and mental health among tertiary education students was lacking. The aims of this scoping review were to rapidly map relevant evidence on the relationships between perceived PL and mental health in higher education students and to determine the feasibility and value of conducting a full systematic review in this research area.

The landscape of nicotine use in the United States (US) has continued to evolve, with electronic cigarette use (hereafter e-cigarette) becoming more evident in recent years. Patterns of dual nicotine use, or using combustible nicotine in conjunction with e-cigarettes, may increase dependence on nicotine, continued exposure to toxins, and corresponding health risks. One of the most prevalent health problems related to nicotine use is the experience of chronic pain.

Adolescence is a developmental period of relative volatility, where the individual experiences significant changes to their physical and social environment. The ability to adapt to the volatility of one's surroundings is an important cognitive ability, particularly while foraging, a near-ubiquitous behaviour across the animal kingdom. As adolescents experience more volatility in their surroundings, we predicted that this age group would be more adept than adults at using exploration to adjust to volatility.

High HIV prevalence in Sub-Saharan African (SSA) in men who have sex with men (MSM) leads to greater risk for their wives and other steady female partners because of prolonged exposure. To provide insights into the context possibly contributing to the risk of HIV transmission from MSM to women, our mixed-method synthesis about MSM' marriage and steady relationships with cisgender women aimed to: (i) assess the extent of engagement in steady relationships with women and in risky behaviors with these women across SSA's four regions; (ii) explore the underlying dynamics within these relationships by gathering qualitative information. We used quantitative and qualitative data specifically pertaining to related to marriage or other steady relationships with women from a systematic review on men who have sex with both men and women (MSMW) in SSA (PROSPERO-CRD42021237836).
