A 9-year-old male with autism and a history of well-controlled epilepsy presented with acute headache, fever, and generalized tonic-clonic seizures. Initial diagnostics, including imaging and cerebrospinal fluid analysis, were inconclusive. However, further serological testing suggested the presence of the chikungunya virus, establishing a diagnosis of chikungunya-associated neurological manifestation.

Congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection is the most common intrauterine viral infection with a significant impact on the foetus and newborn. Current diagnostic practice includes serological testing for specific antibodies, but there are no global screening protocols. Maternal CMV screening is often performed in conjunction with antenatal ultrasound.

We have developed a new universal influenza B vaccination strategy based on inactivated influenza B viruses displaying mosaic hemagglutinins (mHAs). Recombinant mHA viruses were constructed by replacing the four major antigenic sites of influenza B virus HAs, with those from exotic avian influenza A virus HAs. Sequential vaccination of naïve mice with mHA-based vaccines elicited higher immune responses towards the immuno-subdominant conserved epitopes of the HA than vaccination with wildtype viruses.

Background: Current opinion holds that hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) arises as a stepwise progression from chronic liver disease (CLD) to cirrhosis and then to HCC. However, some HCCs may develop in a non-cirrhotic liver, raising uncertainty about their origin.
Methods: We analysed a prospectively accrued cohort of 2592 CLD patients (median follow-up = 13 years) with no prior evidence of liver cirrhosis.

Conventional point-of-care lateral flow immunoassays are characterized by an antibody-tagged probe irregular coupling that can limit sensitivity and require a long assay's time. We synthesized polyethylene glycol-modified selenium nanoparticles (PEG-SeNPs) by template method and developed a strategy to set antibody probes targeted and orderly by using PEG-SeNPs. Synthesized PEG-SeNPs with high stability could immobilize antibodies in the "stand-up" orientation, resulting in a faster detection time of less than 1 min by direct observer visualization without instruments or equipment.
