The space-charge field of a relativistic charged bunch propagating in plasma is screened due to the presence of mobile charge carriers. We experimentally investigate such screening by measuring the effect of dielectric wakefields driven by the bunch in a uncoated dielectric capillary where the plasma is confined. We show that the plasma screens the space-charge field and therefore suppresses the dielectric wakefields when the distance between the bunch and the dielectric surface is much larger than the plasma skin depth. Before full screening is reached, the effects of dielectric and plasma wakefields are present simultaneously.

The application of temperature-compensated photonic device is hampered by poor accuracy and overly simplistic functions of propagation in photonic integrated circuits (PICs) field. Herein, we report a new library of donor-acceptor metal-organic framework (D-A MOF) with thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) and the fabricating of temperature-compensated photonic device by virtue of the unique temperature response character of TADF emitters. Highly tunable through-space charge transfer (TSCT) of TADF was realized within the D-A MOFs through a novel strategy that synergistically combines the internal heavy atom effect (HAE) with an external HAE, induced by the incorporation of heavy atoms into different components, achieving the regulable photophysical indicators including adjustable PL wavelength (534 to 592 nm) and surging quantum yield (5.

Zinc ferrite (ZnFeO, ZFO) has gained attention as a candidate material for photoelectrochemical water oxidation. However, champion devices have achieved photocurrents far below that predicted by its bandgap energy. Herein, strong optical interference is employed in compact ultrathin film (8-14 nm) Ti-doped ZFO films deposited on specular back reflectors to boost photoanode performance through enhanced light trapping, resulting in a roughly fourfold improvement in absorption as compared to films deposited on transparent substrates.

Chemical Competing Diffusion for Practical All-Solid-State Batteries.

Beijing Key Laboratory of Environmental Science and Engineering, School of Materials Science and Engineering, Beijing Institute of Technology, Beijing 100081, P. R. China.

The thermal safety issues of currently available Ni-rich cathode-based power supplies brought in the development of all-solid-state batteries, yet the cascade reactions in Ni-rich materials and the chemo-mechanical degradation between the cathode and solid electrolyte diminished the cycle life. Here, by introducing a new heteroatom chemical competing diffusion strategy, we successfully stabilize the Ni-rich cathode and the contact face with an solid electrolyte. Combining extensive explorations in theoretical calculation and multiscale in/ex situ characterization, we elucidate the atomic-level chemical competing diffusion upon the topological lithiation of layered materials.

College of Environmental and Resource Sciences, Engineering Research Center of Polymer Green Recycling of Ministry of Education, Fujian Key Laboratory of Pollution Control & Resource Reuse, Fujian Normal University, Fuzhou, 350007, P. R. China.

Article Synopsis
  • Luminescent polymers are typically made by adding traditional luminescent materials, but there's emerging interest in non-traditional intrinsic luminescent (NTIL) polymers that don't use these materials.
  • Recent developments in NTIL polymers include multicolor options and those responsive to external stimuli, achieved through innovative strategies like polymerization-induced emission.
  • The review discusses how factors such as charge-transfer effects and hydrogen bonding can enhance the performance of NTIL polymers, potentially influencing various fields of research.

Maximizing Blue Energy via Densely Grafted Soft Layers in Nanopores.

Microfluidics and Microscale Transport Processes Laboratory, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, Guwahati 781039, Assam, India.

We investigate energy generation from salinity gradients inside a nanopore that is connected to reservoirs at both ends. We consider that the inner wall surfaces are grafted with a densely grafted polyelectrolyte layer (PEL). We developed the PEL grafting density-dependent correlation of dielectric permittivity, molecular diffusivity, and dynamic viscosity in this endeavor.
