Background: Clinical trial sponsors rely on research sites to identify and enroll appropriate study participants and to correctly and reliably assess symptom severity and function over the course of the trial. Low-recruiting sites represent a large financial and operational burden and may negatively impact trial success either by selecting inappropriate participants and/or high prevalence of data quality issues. We previously reported that >60% of sites in schizophrenia clinical trials recruited ≤5 participants.

Background: Hispanic/Latinx older adults have increased risk of developing Alzheimer's disease, poor access to timely and quality dementia care, as well as limited access to caregiver support and interventions. We addressed these structural barriers at a local level in central Virginia in order to improve disparities in risk, early detection, and care.
Method: Systematic expansion of services was undertaken by establishing a Spanish neuropsychological clinic, providing personalized scheduling services by providers to ensure appropriate follow-up after referral is received, engaging in dementia specific community talks through a broader health system initiative (UVA Latinx Health Initiative), and facilitating dementia care coordination services for caregivers.

Background: It is well documented that participating in physical activity can help dementia caregivers alleviate stress and enhance well-being. However, few studies have examined dementia caregivers' needs for exercise, and the feasibility of promoting their physical activity amidst heavy caregiving responsibilities. This study compared the participation of physical activity between dementia caregivers and non-caregivers, and examined effects of racial/ethnic identities and other sociodemographic factors on dementia caregivers' physical activity participation.

Background: For care of persons with dementia (PWDs), the healthcare system relies on informal care partners (CPs), who are disproportionately at risk of detrimental health outcomes. Psychosocial interventions, including via telehealth, have been shown to buffer against negative outcomes and improve CPs' ability to provide care. We aimed to develop and pilot an evidence-informed CP intervention using in-person and telehealth modalities.

Background: Data from high-income countries (HICs) suggest a decline in age-specific incidence rates of dementia. However, this has happened primarily in HICs, with low- and middle- income countries (LMICs) facing two main challenges: a higher burden of risk factors and, in general, a faster ageing population. Most people with dementia live in LMICs, and this is set to increase, thus requiring urgent and robust action to prevent, treat and support people with dementia and their families.
