Reactive oxygen species (ROS) play essential roles in both physiological and pathological processes. Under physiological conditions, appropriate amounts of ROS play an important role in signaling and regulation in cells. However, too much ROS can lead to many health problems, including inflammation, cancer, delayed wound healing, neurodegenerative diseases (such as Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease), and autoimmune diseases, and oxidative stress from excess ROS is also one of the most critical factors in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases such as atherosclerosis.

Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), the most abundant polyphenol compound in green tea, has garnered significant attention in recent years for its protective effects against AS. EGCG possesses properties that lower lipid levels, exhibit antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities, enhance plaque stability, and promote the recovery of endothelial function.

Introduction: Foot ulcers are one of the most serious complications of diabetes, leading to significant risks on amputation and mortality. Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is an important factor for the development and the outcome of diabetic foot ulcers (DFU). Although prompt and accurate detection of PAD is critical to reduce complications, its diagnosis can be challenging with currently used bedside tests (such as ankle-brachial index and toe pressure) due to medial arterial calcification.
