Readily accessible -sulfonylaminophthalimides were developed to be efficient sulfonyl radical precursors upon being treated with a base/oxidant under mild conditions. The method was applied to the oxysulfonylation of olefins, providing β-ketosulfones and isobenzofurans stereoselectively. On the basis of control experiments, density functional theory calculations, and the literature, a plausible radical mechanism was proposed. The findings offered a chance to develop novel radical precursors based on diversely substituted -aminophthalimides, which might establish a universal mild approach for the generation of various radicals.

This study investigated the effects of non-thermal atmospheric plasma (NTAP) treatment on the growth, chemical composition, and biological activity of geranium (Pelargonium graveolens L'Herit) leaves. NTAP was applied at a frequency of 13.56 MHz, exposure time of 15 s, discharge temperature of 25 °C, and power levels (T1 = 50, T2 = 80, and T3 = 120 W).

Structural diversity can affect the degradability of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) during water treatment. Here, three PFASs with different functional groups-CF-R, PFHpA, PFHxS, and 6:2 FTS-were degraded using vacuum ultraviolet (VUV/UV)-based treatments. While fully fluorinated PFASs-PFHpA and PFHxS-were degraded faster in the VUV/UV/sulfite reaction than in VUV/UV photolysis, VUV/UV photolysis was more effective for degrading 6:2 FTS by OH radicals produced through photolysis of water.

L-citrulline (L-CIT), a precursor to L-arginine (L-ARG), is a key contributor to the nitric oxide (NO) signaling pathway. Endothelial dysfunction, characterized by deficient nitric oxide synthesis, is implicated in the pathogenesis of various neonatal conditions such as necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) and bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) associated pulmonary hypertension (PH). This review summarizes the current evidence around the possible role of L-CIT supplementation in the treatment of these conditions.

Chlorine radicals (Cl) are highly reactive and affect the fate of air pollutants. Several field studies in China have revealed elevated levels of daytime molecular chlorine (Cl), which, upon photolysis, release substantial amounts of Cl but are poorly represented in current chemical transport models. Here, we implemented a parametrization for the formation of daytime Cl through the photodissociation of particulate nitrate in acidic environments into a regional model and assessed its impact on coastal air quality during autumn in South China.

Recently, the extensive use of antibiotics has unavoidably resulted in the discharge of significant quantities of these drugs into the environment, causing contamination and fostering antibiotic resistance. Among various approaches employed to tackle this problem, heterogeneous photocatalysis has emerged as a technique for antibiotic degradation. This study explores the potential of CeO as a photocatalyst for the degradation of chloramphenicol.
