We present a mixed quantum-classical framework for the microscopic and non-Markovian modeling of exciton-phonon scattering in solid-state materials and apply it to calculate the optical linewidths of monolayer MoS2. Within this framework, we combine reciprocal-space mixed quantum-classical dynamics with models for the quasiparticle band structure as well as the electron-hole and carrier-phonon interactions, parametrized against ab initio calculations, although noting that a direct interfacing with ab initio calculations is straightforward in principle. We introduce various parameters for truncating the Brillouin zone to select regions of interest. Variations of these parameters allow us to determine linewidths in the limit of asymptotic material sizes. The obtained asymptotic linewidths are found to agree favorably with experimental measurements across a range of temperatures. As such, our framework establishes itself as a promising route toward unraveling the non-Markovian and microscopic principles governing the nonadiabatic dynamics of solids.

Influence of nonequilibrium vibrational dynamics on spin selectivity in chiral molecular junctions.

We explore the role of molecular vibrations in the chirality-induced spin selectivity (CISS) effect in the context of charge transport through a molecular nanojunction. We employ a mixed quantum-classical approach that combines Ehrenfest dynamics for molecular vibrations with the hierarchical equations of motion method for the electronic degrees of freedom. This approach treats the molecular vibrations in a nonequilibrium manner, which is crucial for the dynamics of molecular nanojunctions.

Study of the N2 vibrational relaxation behaviors via the CO rovibrational thermometry.

J Chem Phys

Deep Space Exploration Laboratory/Department of Modern Mechanics, University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei 230026, People's Republic of China.

This paper performed a comprehensive study of the thermal nonequilibrium effects of CO/Ar mixtures with various degrees of N2 additions and probed the N2 relaxation behaviors via the CO rovibrational thermometry. The rovibrational temperature time histories of shock-heated CO/N2/Ar mixtures were measured via a laser-absorption technique, and the corresponding vibrational relaxation data were summarized at 1890-3490 K. The measured results were compared with predictions from the Schwartz-Slawsky-Herzfeld (SSH) formula and the state-to-state (StS) approach (treating CO and N2 as pseudo-species).

Recent developments in quantum computing are highly promising, particularly in the realm of quantum chemistry. Due to the noisy nature of currently available quantum hardware, hybrid quantum-classical algorithms have emerged as a reliable option for near-term simulations. Mixed quantum-classical dynamics methods effectively capture nonadiabatic effects by integrating classical nuclear dynamics with quantum chemical computations of the electronic properties.

The effect of conformational dynamics and solvent interactions on the second-order nonlinear optical (NLO) responses of the open and closed forms of a donor-acceptor Stenhouse adduct (DASA) are investigated by a mixed quantum/classical computational approach, which couples molecular dynamics (MD) simulations and time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) calculations. The latter are further combined with various solvation schemes, including polarizable continuum models, hybrid QM/MM approaches using either non polarizable or polarizable electrostatic embedding, and QM/QM' schemes with explicit treatment of a few molecules of the first solvation shell. The performances of the different solvation models are discussed in the context of comparisons with experimental data obtained from hyper-Rayleigh scattering measurements.

To understand the recently observed enigmatic nonadiabatic energy transfer for hyperthermal H atom scattering from a semiconductor surface, Ge(111)(2 × 8), we present a mixed quantum-classical nonadiabatic molecular dynamics model based on the time-dependent evolution of Kohn-Sham orbitals and a classical path approximation. Our results suggest that facile nonadiabatic electronic transitions from the valence band to the conduction band occur selectively at the rest atom site, where surface states are doubly occupied, but not at the adatom site, where empty surface states are localized. This drastic site specificity can be attributed to the changes of the local band structure upon energetic H collisions at different surface sites, leading to transient near degeneracies and significant couplings between occupied and unoccupied orbitals at the rest atom but not at the adatom.
