Recently, RNA velocity has driven a paradigmatic change in single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) studies, allowing the reconstruction and prediction of directed trajectories in cell differentiation and state transitions. Most existing methods of dynamic modeling use ordinary differential equations (ODE) for individual genes without applying multivariate approaches. However, this modeling strategy inadequately captures the intrinsically stochastic nature of transcriptional dynamics governed by a cell-specific latent time across multiple genes, potentially leading to erroneous results.

Managed honeybees and soil nitrogen availability interactively modulate sunflower production in intensive agricultural landscapes of China.

Insects provide important pollination services for cops. While land use intensification has resulted in steep declines of wild pollinator diversity across agricultural landscapes, releasing managed honeybees has been proposed as a countermeasure. However, it remains uncertain whether managed honeybees can close the pollination gap of sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.

Ecosystem models are often used to predict the consequences of management interventions in applied ecology and conservation. These models are often high-dimensional and nonlinear, yet limited data are available to calibrate or validate them. Consequently, their utility as decision-support tools is unclear.

Environmental Conditions Modulate Warming Effects on Plant Litter Decomposition Globally.

Ecol Lett

January 2025

Climate Impacts Research Centre, Department of Ecology and Environmental Sciences, Umeå University, Umeå, Sweden.

Empirical studies worldwide show that warming has variable effects on plant litter decomposition, leaving the overall impact of climate change on decomposition uncertain. We conducted a meta-analysis of 109 experimental warming studies across seven continents, using natural and standardised plant material, to assess the overarching effect of warming on litter decomposition and identify potential moderating factors. We determined that at least 5.

Background: Prior studies suggest prevalence of heart failure (HF) has remained steady or progressively decreased over past 30 years in the general population. Whether this favourable trend occurred in adolescents and young adults aged 10-24 years has yet to be elucidated. We aim to identify the trends in the burden of HF in this young population from 1990 to 2021 to inform areas for targeted intervention and prevention efforts.
