Xanthohumol (XTH, ), a major prenylated chalcone in hops, has attracted considerable interests because of its pharmaceutical potency. To explore more related derivatives of XTH, its biotransformation was performed using the microbial model. Fungus sp. exhibited a robust biocatalytic feature to transform the substrate. Preparative fungi-mediated biotransformation led to the isolation of two new ( and ) and eight known (, and -) metabolites. The two new metabolites were identified as (2″)-dihydroxanthohumol B () and xanthohumol L 4'--β-D-glucopyranoside () based on the combined spectroscopic analysis. According to the cytotoxic activities of all metabolites, compounds and showed relatively sensitive cytotoxic activity against A375 and A549 cancer cell lines, respectively. These findings not only provided a biological approach to achieve the derivatives of XTH but also gave an information for the lead optimisation of XTH for the development of potential anti-cancer agents.

Microorganisms are preferred as an enzyme source due to their short lifespan, high production rate, affordability, and absence of harmful chemicals in enzymes generated from plant and animal sources. Fungi communities are biological factories for many bioactive compounds such as the important industrial enzyme pectinase. The current study dealt with production, optimization, purification, biocompatibility, and application of fungal pectinase obtained from five plant rhizospheres (banana, jarawa, lemon, tomato, and wheat) at Fayoum Governorate, Egypt.

A32 kDa protein from fungi can be used to produce nanoparticles which might be use as nanofertilisers needed by plants. There are large numbers of fungi which can be used for the efficient synthesis of nanofertiliser particles. Generally, the formation of nanoparticles by fungi involves metal capture, enzymatic reduction and capping on their surface.

Sulfur metabolism plays a major role in plant growth and development, environmental adaptation, and material synthesis, and the sulfate transporters are the beginning of sulfur metabolism. We identified 37 potential genes in the blueberry genome, encoding peptides with 534 to 766 amino acids. The genes were grouped into four subfamilies in an evolutionary analysis.

Inoculation is widely used in composting to improve the mineralization process, however, the link of fungal inoculant to humification is rarely proposed. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of compound fungal inoculation on humification process and fungal community dynamics in corn straw composting with two different kinds of nitrogen sources [pig manure (PM) and urea (UR)]. Structural equation modeling and random forest analysis were conducted to identify key fungi and explore the fungi-mediated humification mechanism.
