Drinking coffee is a daily routine for many people. Supplement manufacturers have proposed adding powdered , known for its ergogenic and immunostimulating properties, and , known for its nerve growth factor (NGF)-stimulating properties, to coffee. The aim of this work was to compare the bioactive substances in three types of coffee: machine-brewed, instant, and traditionally brewed, prepared with the addition of and fruiting bodies. The analysis of bioactive substances was performed using AAS and RP-HPLC methods. Among the control samples of coffee, traditionally brewed coffee was the best source of bioelements. Considering the mushroom species tested, the best additional source of Mg, Zn, Cu, Na, K, and Ca was . A slightly higher Fe content was determined for . With the addition of , the amounts of 4-feruloylquinic acid (18.6 mg/200 mL) and 3,5-di-caffeoylquinic acid (3.76 mg/200 mL) also increased. In conclusion, the species has been proven to be a better source of bioactive substances as a coffee additive in the daily diet. The combination of brewed coffee and the tested mushrooms seems to be the most beneficial in terms of health-promoting effects.

Cynanchum wallichii (CW) is a traditional Chinese medicine which is widely used for treating arthrophlogosis, traumatic injury, and other conditions. Herein, we investigate the effects and mechanisms of CW and its bioactive constituent CW1 in reversing docetaxel (DTX) resistance in prostate cancer (PCa) cells. We investigated the reversal effects of CW and its bioactive constituent CW1 on 22Rv1/DTX cells in vitro and in vivo.

Sea spray aerosol (SSA) is a complex mixture of natural substances that can be inhaled by coastal residents. Previous studies have suggested that SSA may have positive effects on human health, but the molecular mechanisms and the factors influencing these effects are poorly understood. In this study, we exposed human bronchial epithelial cells (BEAS-2B) to natural SSA samples, collected monthly using quartz microfiber filters mounted on tripods within 15 m of the waterline, with air drawn through pumps, throughout a one-year period at the Ostend coast, Belgium, and measured cellular gene expression changes using RNA sequencing.

Background: Despite some advances in treatment, a cure for Alzheimer's disease (AD) remains elusive. Disease hallmarks include heightened neuroinflammation and oxidative stress, associated with progressive decline in mobility and cognitive functions. Natural compounds provide a valuable reservoir of novel bioactive substances with therapeutic potential, fewer side effects, and increased affordability.

Although therapies based on direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) effectively eradicate hepatitis C virus (HCV) in patients, there is still a high risk of liver fibrosis even after a sustained virological response. Therefore, it is of great clinical importance to understand the mechanism of potential factors that promote liver fibrosis after virological cure by treatment with DAAs. Here, we found that tubulointerstitial nephritis antigen-like 1 (TINAGL1) is significantly increased in HCV-infected hepatocytes and in the liver of patients with liver fibrosis, and that higher TINAGL1 expression persists in HCV-eradicated hepatocytes after treatment with DAAs.

Targeting cuproptosis is considered as a promising therapeutic strategy for the prevention of tumors. However, the potential role of cuproptosis and its related genes in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) remains elusive. The present study aims to explore the sensitivity of ccRCC to cuproptosis and its underlying mechanism.
