As one of the most important food crops, the potato is widely planted in the oasis agricultural region of Northwest China. To ascertain the impact of regulated deficit irrigation (RDI) on various facets including dry matter accumulation, tuber yield, quality and water use efficiency (WUE) of potato plants, a two-growth season field experiment under mulched drip irrigation was conducted in the desert oasis region of Northwest China. Water deficits, applied at the seedling, tuber formation, tuber expansion and starch accumulation stages, encompassed two distinctive levels: mild (55-65% of field capacity, F) and moderate (45-55% F) deficit, with full irrigation (65-75% F) throughout the growing season as the control (CK). The results showed that water deficit significantly reduced ( < 0.05) above-ground dry matter, water consumption and tuber yield compared to CK, and the reduction increased with the increasing water deficit. A mild water deficit at the tuber formation stage, without significantly reducing ( > 0.05) yield, could significantly increase WUE and irrigation water use efficiency (IWUE), with two-year average increases of 25.55% and 32.33%, respectively, compared to CK. Water deficit at the tuber formation stage increased starch content, whereas water deficit at tuber expansion stage significantly reduced starch, protein and reducing sugar content. Additionally, a comprehensive evaluation showed that a mild water deficit at the tuber formation stage is the optimal RDI strategy for potato production, providing a good balance between yield, quality and WUE. The results of this study can provide theoretical support for efficient and sustainable potato production in the desert oasis regions of Northwest China.

Our study focused on the potential mechanism of microRNA-490-3p (miR-490-3p) on learning/memory disability of rats resulting from sevoflurane (Sev). The rat model of cognitive dysfunction was established by infection with miR-490-3p mimic and Sev-exposure. Morris water maze and open field test assay were used for the assessment of cognitive deficits.

Plants encounter various environmental stresses throughout development, including shade, high light, drought, hypoxia, extreme temperatures, and metal toxicity, all of which adversely affect growth and productivity. Organic acids (OAs), besides serving as intermediates in the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle, play crucial roles in multiple metabolic pathways and cellular compartments, including mitochondrial metabolism, amino acid metabolism, the glyoxylate cycle, and the photosynthetic mechanisms of C4 and CAM plants. OAs contribute to stress tolerance by acting as root chelating agents, regulating ATP production, and providing reducing power for detoxifying reactive oxygen species (ROS).

Background: Microglia play a critical role in the pathogenesis and development of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Selective small‐molecule colony‐stimulating factor 1 receptors (CSF1R) inhibitor, designed to deplete microglia, could be used to meliorate AD. This study aimed to investigate the effects and mechanisms of chimeric antigen receptor T (CAR‐T) cells targeting CSF1R in 6‐month‐old APP/PS1 male mice.

Background: Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) is a neurological disease characterized by two major biological components; amyloid beta (abeta) and hyperphosphorylated tau. Research suggests that the hyperphosphorylated tau aggregation seen in late‐onset AD is characterized by two independent pathways, one caused by abeta buildup, and the other potentially caused by Apolipoprotein 4 (APOE4). However, research examining the relationship between hyperphosphorylated tau and APOE4 in the absence of abeta has been both inconsistent and lacks behavioral results.

Adaptation to drought is one of the most important challenges for agriculture. The root system, and its integration with the soil, is fundamental in conferring drought tolerance. At the same time, it is extremely challenging to study.
