High-purity CaO cubic crystallites extracted from limestone exhibited excellent activity as base catalysts for waste cooking oil (WCO) conversion into biodiesel. Saponin from extract acted as a surfactant in CaO extraction and transformation into well-defined cubic microcrystallites. The application of saponin from extract as a surfactant for CaO production results in a high level of CaO purity and particle size reduction compared to directly calcined limestone (CaO-MgO). The catalytic activity was evaluated on CaO from hydrothermal and co-precipitation synthesis, MgO and CaO-MgO derived from limestone, giving hydrothermal CaO catalysts enhanced biodiesel yield. Optimization of transesterification conditions using Box Behnken Design response surface methodology achieved 92.40% biodiesel yield at 65 °C, 3 h reaction time and when using 5% of CaO catalysts.

Semantic segmentation is essential for comprehending images, but the process necessitates a substantial amount of detailed annotations at the pixel level. Acquiring such annotations can be costly in the real-world. Unsupervised domain adaptation (UDA) for semantic segmentation is a technique that uses virtual data with labels to train a model and adapts it to real data without labels.

The activation of C-C bond of benzocyclobutenones under mild reaction conditions remains a challenge. We herein report a photoinduced catalyst-free regio-specific C1-C8 bond cleavage of benzocyclobutenones, enabling the generation of versatile ortho-quinoid ketene methides for aza-[4 + 2]-cycloaddition with imines, which offers a facile route to isoquinolinone derivatives, including seven family members of protoberberine alkaloids, gusanlung A, B, D, 8-oxotetrahydroplamatine, tetrahydrothalifendine, tetrahydropalmatine, and xylopinine. Furthermore, the catalytic enantioselective version of this strategy is also realized by merging synergistic photocatalysis and chiral Lewis acid catalysis.

The influence of the mitochondrial control system on ischemic heart disease has become a major focus of current research. Mitophagy, as a very crucial part of the mitochondrial control system, plays a special role in ischemic heart disease, unlike mitochondrial dynamics. The published reviews have not explored in detail the unique function of mitophagy in ischemic heart disease, therefore, the aim of this paper is to summarize how mitophagy regulates the progression of ischemic heart disease.

Moyamoya disease (MMD) is a progressive cerebrovascular disorder that increases the risk of intracranial ischemia and hemorrhage. Timely diagnosis and intervention can significantly reduce the risk of new-onset stroke in patients with MMD. However, the current diagnostic methods are invasive and expensive, and non-invasive diagnosis using biomarkers of MMD is rarely reported.
