This study introduces the "Adjustable Oxygen Adapter," designed to address interruptions in oxygen supply for patients transitioning from oxygen spray bottles, particularly in wards with single-outlet flowmeters. Inspired by the "Three-Way Piston Rotating Adapter," this innovative design, operated by a single switch, ensures uninterrupted oxygen supply during equipment changes. Stability testing, conducted with a flow monitor by a respiratory therapist, confirms that the adapter provides a stable flow rate and oxygen concentration, offering a practical solution for seamless transitions between oxygen devices in clinical settings.

Background: This study evaluates retinal oxygen saturation and vessel density within the macula and correlates these measures in controls and subjects with type 2 diabetes (DM) with (DMR) and without (DMnR) retinopathy. Changes in retinal oxygen saturation have not been evaluated regionally in diabetic patients.
Methods: Data from seventy subjects (28 controls, 26 DMnR, and 16 DMR were analyzed.

During hypoxia, tissues are subjected to an inadequate oxygen supply, disrupting the balance needed to maintain normal function. This deficiency can occur due to reduced oxygen delivery caused by impaired blood flow or a decline in the blood's ability to carry oxygen. In tumors, hypoxia and vascularization play crucial roles, shaping their microenvironments and influencing cancer progression, response to treatment and metastatic potential.

The present work introduces and validates an artificial cell free system for the synthesis of acetoin from ethanol, representing a greener alternative to conventional chemical synthesis. The one pot multi-enzymatic system, which employs pyruvate decarboxylase from Zymobacter palmae (ZpPDC), alcohol dehydrogenase from Saccharomyces cerevisiae (ScADH), and NADH oxidase from Streptococcus pyogenes (SpNOX), achieves nearly 100 % substrate conversion and reaction yield within 6 h under optimal conditions (pH 7.5, enzyme activities: ZpPDC 100 U·mL, ScADH 50 U·mL, SpNOX 127 U·mL, and 1 mM NAD).

Bacterial luciferase (LuxAB) catalyzes the conversion of reduced flavin mononucleotide (FMNH⁻), oxygen, and a long-chain aldehyde to oxidized FMN, the corresponding acid and water with concomitant light emission. This bioluminescence reaction requires the reaction of a flavin reductase such as LuxG (in vivo partner of LuxAB) to supply FMNH⁻ for the LuxAB reaction. LuxAB is a well-known self-sufficient luciferase system because both aldehyde and FMNH⁻ substrates can be produced by the associated enzymes encoded by the genes in the lux operon, allowing the system to be auto-luminous.

Introduction: Preclinically, 24-hour continuous Ex-Situ Lung Perfusion (ESLP) is the longest duration achieved in large animal models and rejected human lungs. Here, we present our 36-hour Negative Pressure Ventilation (NPV)-ESLP protocol applied to porcine and rejected human lungs.
Methods: Five sets of donor domestic pig lungs (45-55 kg) underwent 36-hour NPV-ESLP.
