Purpose Of Review: Despite the growing availability of oral PrEP, coverage remains suboptimal. Through the introduction of additional PrEP methods, including vaginal rings and long-acting injectable formulations, health systems globally are on the cusp of offering PrEP methods that vary by route of administration, efficacy, and frequency of use. With PrEP choice, it will be important to explore PrEP use patterns to better understand how the ability to choose and switch products affects coverage and continuation. In this review, we draw parallels with family planning (FP) by summarizing how method choice and product switching affected contraceptive coverage globally, synthesize what is known about PrEP product switching, and outline evidence gaps to help guide future research on PrEP switching in the context of choice.

Recent Findings: Decades of research in FP has demonstrated that product switching is common and can lead to more satisfaction and increases in contraceptive use. While research on PrEP product switching is nascent, findings suggest switching is common, and that providing more than one PrEP option can increase coverage. Key evidence gaps include understanding product switching in the context of full versus constrained choice, switching in the context of temporary need, and developing interventions that promote product switching for those who could benefit. Providing choice and allowing people to start, stop, and switch products according to their needs and desires is a core component of a rights-based approach to HIV prevention. More research is needed to better understand what drives use patterns, including switching, and how to leverage choice to improve coverage. Standard definitions -some of which have been proposed in this review-are needed to inform comparable measurement. Finally, there is a need to holistically frame PrEP use to acknowledge changes in need over the life course, thus making method switching a standard part of HIV prevention.

Health care is undergoing a "revolution," where patients are becoming consumers and armed with apps, consumer review scores, and, in some countries, high out-of-pocket costs. Although economic analyses and health technology assessment (HTA) have come a long way in their evaluation of the clinical, economic, ethical, legal, and societal perspectives that may be impacted by new technologies and procedures, these approaches do not reflect underlying patient preferences that may be important in the assessment of "value" in the current value-based health care transition. The major challenges that come with the transformation to a value-based health care system lead to questions such as "How are economic analyses, often the basis for policy and reimbursement decisions, going to switch from a societal to an individual perspective?" and "How do we then assess (economic) value, considering individual preference heterogeneity, as well as varying heuristics and decision rules?" These challenges, related to including the individual perspective in cost-effectiveness analysis (CEA), have been widely debated.

Nanoscale Titanium Oxide Memristive Structures for Neuromorphic Applications: Atomic Force Anodization Techniques, Modeling, Chemical Composition, and Resistive Switching Properties.

Nanomaterials (Basel)

January 2025

Research Laboratory Neuroelectronics and Memristive Nanomaterials (NEUROMENA Lab), Institute of Nanotechnologies, Electronics and Electronic Equipment Engineering, Southern Federal University, Taganrog 347922, Russia.

This paper presents the results of a study on the formation of nanostructures of electrochemical titanium oxide for neuromorphic applications. Three anodization synthesis techniques were considered to allow the formation of structures with different sizes and productivity: nanodot, lateral, and imprint. The mathematical model allowed us to calculate the processes of oxygen ion transfer to the reaction zone; the growth of the nanostructure due to the oxidation of the titanium film; and the formation of TiO, TiO, and TiO oxides in the volume of the growing nanostructure and the redistribution of oxygen vacancies and conduction channel.

Electromagnetic Wavefront Engineering by Switchable and Multifunctional Kirigami Metasurfaces.

Nanomaterials (Basel)

January 2025

Shanghai Engineering Research Centre of Ultra Precision Optical Manufacturing, Department of Optical Science and Engineering, School of Information Science and Technology, Fudan University, Shanghai 200433, China.

Developing switchable and multifunctional metasurfaces is essential for high-integration photonics. However, most previous studies encountered challenges such as limited degrees of freedom, simple tuning of predefined functionality, and complicated control systems. Here, we develop a general strategy to construct switchable and multifunctional metasurfaces.

Asymmetric Synthesis of Azahelicenes via CPA-Catalyzed Kinetic Resolution.

Org Lett

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Organic Synthesis of Jiangsu Province, College of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Materials Science & Collaborative Innovation Center of Suzhou Nano Science and Technology, Soochow University, Suzhou 215123, P. R. China.

The azahelicenes are structurally fascinating and practically useful chiral scaffolds, but their synthesis, especially in a catalytically asymmetric manner, is rather challenging. Herein, we report a CPA-catalyzed transfer hydrogenation process, which enables a rapid kinetic resolution of aza[6]helicenes. The established strategy provides facile access to enantioenriched aza[6]helicenes and tetrahydro[6]helicenes from easily available starting materials.

Magnetic relaxation switch biosensor for detection of Vibrio parahaemolyticus based on photocleavable hydrogel.

Anal Chim Acta

January 2025

State Key Laboratory for Managing Biotic and Chemical Threats to the Quality and Safety of Agro-products, School of Material Science and Chemical Engineering, Ningbo University, Ningbo, 315211, PR China. Electronic address:

Background: Foodborne pathogens, particularly Vibrio parahaemolyticus (VP) found in seafood, pose significant health risks, including abdominal pain, nausea, and even death. Rapid, accurate, and sensitive detection of these pathogens is crucial for food safety and public health. However, existing detection methods often require complex sample pretreatment, which limits their practical application.
