Twin studies suggest that additive genetic effects account for about a quarter of the variance in handedness. Recently, Schijven et al. used exome-wide sequencing to provide evidence for a role of rare protein-coding variants in handedness.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFALS and FTD are complex neurodegenerative disorders that primarily affects motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord, and cortical neurons in the frontal lobe. Although the pathogenesis of ALS/FTD is unclear, recent research spotlights nucleocytoplasmic transport impairment, DNA damage, and nuclear abnormalities as drivers of neuronal death. In this study, we show that loss of nuclear envelope (NE) integrity is a key pathology associated with nuclear pore complex (NPC) injury in mutant neurons.

Microtubules are a key component of eukaryotic cell architecture. Regulation of the dynamic growth and shrinkage of microtubules gives cells their shape, allows cells to swim, and drives the separation of chromosomes. Parasites have developed intriguingly divergent biology, seemingly expanding upon and reinventing microtubule use in fascinating ways.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) remains one of the deadliest cancers due to low therapeutic response rates and poor prognoses. Majority of patients present with symptoms post metastatic spread, which contributes to its overall lethality as the 4th leading cause of cancer-related deaths. Therapeutic approaches thus far target only one or two of the cancer specific hallmarks, such as high proliferation rate, apoptotic evasion, or immune evasion.
