Aims: Endothelial dysfunction is a systemic disorder and risk factor for atherosclerosis. Our aim was to assess whether there is a relation between peripheral endothelial function and myocardial perfusion in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD).

Methods And Results: We prospectively studied 54 patients, who had a positive result for obstructive CAD in coronary CT angiography. Myocardial perfusion (O)HO positron emission tomography was imaged at rest and during adenosine-induced maximal vasodilation. Peripheral endothelial function was assessed by measuring flow-mediated dilation (FMD) with ultrasound from the left brachial artery. There was a statistically significant correlation between FMD and global hyperaemic myocardial blood flow (MBF; = 0.308, = 0.023). The correlation remained statistically significant when controlling for gender, height, and diastolic blood pressure at rest ( = 0.367, = 0.008). Receiver operating character analysis, however, yielded an area under curve of only 0.559 ( = 0.492) when FMD was used to predict reduced MBF (below 2.3 mL/g/min). Patients with significantly decreased MBF ( = 14) underwent invasive coronary angiography. FMD showed an inverse correlation with the severity of the most significant stenosis ( = -0.687, = 0.007).

Conclusion: Peripheral endothelial function is related with hyperaemic MBF and with the severity of CAD in invasive coronary angiography. Due to insufficient sensitivity and specificity in the identification of reduced MBF, FMD is not suitable for clinical practice at the individual level. However, it works at the population level as a research tool when assessing endothelial dysfunction in patients with CAD.

Peripheral endothelial function, which accounts for the variability in shear stimulus, can be assessed using shear-mediated dilation normalized to the increased shear stimulus. Similarly, shear-mediated dilation of the internal carotid artery (ICA), an index of cerebrovascular endothelial function, should be normalized to increased shear stimulus. However, this approach has not yet been validated.

Therapeutic angiogenesis has garnered significant attention as a potential treatment strategy for lower limb ischemic diseases. Although hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) has been identified as a key promoter of therapeutic angiogenesis, its clinical application is limited due to its short half-life. In this study, we successfully developed and characterized platelet membrane-coated HGF-poly(lactic--glycolic acid) (PLGA) nanoparticles (NPs).

Predicting corneal decompensation in Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy with Scheimpflug tomography and clinical parameters.

Department of Ophthalmology, Université Paris Cité, Cochin Hospital, Assistance Publique-Hôpitaux de Paris, Paris, France.

Purpose: This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of various tomographic indices, both established and novel, in predicting endothelial decompensation leading to either spontaneous corneal transplantation or transplantation following cataract surgery in patients with Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy (FECD).

Methods: In this cross-sectional, retrospective study, we reviewed the files of 93 eyes from 54 FECD patients undergoing regular follow-up. We recorded clinical metrics such as morning visual disturbance (MVD) and corrected distance visual acuity.

Background: Adults with congenital heart disease (ACHD) can face a lifelong risk of premature cardiovascular events. Endothelial dysfunction and arterial stiffness may be some of the key mechanisms involved. Early identification of endothelial damage in ACHD could be crucial to mitigate the adverse events.
