Objectives: This is a protocol for a Cochrane Review (intervention). The objectives are as follows: To assess the effects of eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR), a psychological intervention programme, on symptoms related to traumatic stress in survivors of life-threatening medical events.

Secondary Objectives: to evaluate whether the effects of EMDR differ according to the nature of the medical event (associated diagnosis or setting), measured outcome (post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, or quality of life), or intervention (online, face-to-face, group or individual sessions).

Background: Alzheimer's disease can cause sleep disturbances in humans, which can worsen other symptoms of the disease.

Method: In our study, we examined the sleep patterns of 23 patients with Alzheimer's disease, aged 65-74 years (20 women and 3 men), over 4 months. All patients reported experiencing poor sleep, including difficulty sleeping in the ward, frequent awakenings during the night, early morning awakenings, and daytime sleepiness.

Background: Phenotyping Alzheimer's Disease (AD) can be crucial to providing personalized treatment. Several studies have analyzed the use of digital biomarkers to characterize a subject's behavior, usually obtained from a single modality, such as speech. However, combining several modalities in a single study has not been deeply studied.

Parkland, FL, USA.

Background: The early detection of neurologic damage at the microscopic level when the disease is subclinical would facilitate intervention preventing progression or potentially reversing the condition. The early determination of drug efficacy could shorten the length of drug studies, thereby reducing research costs. The eye is the only place in the body where an artery, vein, and nerve can be directly visualized The nerve fiber layer of the retina is an outgrowth of the brain.

Background: Clinical rating scales and neuropsychological tests are commonly used for assessing sign and disease severity, yet lack detail in the early stages Alzheimer's Disease (AD). Existing evaluation methods can be subjective, nonlinear, expensive, or reliant on anecdotal evidence making objective and consistent characterization and phenotyping of AD difficult. Multimodal analysis of patient behavior, rather than scoring of patient-generated output which can be skewed by compensation strategies, presents a unique opportunity to objectively quantify AD related changes.

Chronic progressive external ophthalmoplegia (CPEO) is a rare mitochondrial disorder characterized by bilateral, slowly progressive ptosis and paralysis of the extraocular muscles. We present the case of a 61-year-old female with a 36-year history of bilateral ptosis and limited eye movements without diplopia. No family history of CPEO or other mitochondrial disorders was reported.
