Five new lipopeptaibols (-) and eight new 19-residue peptaibols (-) along with two known lipopeptaibols, lipovelutibols C () and D () were isolated from . The planar structures of the newly discovered peptaibols (-, -) were elucidated using 1D and 2D NMR, and UPLC-MS/MS data. The absolute configurations for new peptaibols (-, -) were elucidated using the advanced Marfey's method and GITC (2,3,4,6-tetra--acetyl-β-d-glucopyranosyl isothiocyanate) derivatization. Through analysis of CD spectra, these peptabols were found to have right-handed helical conformations. While most of the new compounds were significantly more active than the positive control, , , , and containing Ser and Leu at positions 10 and 11, respectively, were the most cytotoxic against MDA-MB-231, SNU449, SKOV3, DU145, and HCT116 cancer cell lines, and the 19-residue peptaibols were generally more potent than lipopeptaibols.

The genus Trichoderma comprises more than 500 valid species and is commonly used in agriculture for the control of plant diseases. In the present study, a Trichoderma species isolated from Scleronema micranthum (Malvaceae) has been extensively characterized and the morphological and phylogenetic data support the proposition of a new fungal species herein named Trichoderma agriamazonicum. This species inhibited the mycelial growth of all the nine phytopathogens tested both by mycoparasitism and by the production of VOCs, with a highlight for the inhibition of Corynespora cassiicola and Colletotrichum spp.

Agricultural systems are in need of low-cost, safe antibiotics to protect crops from pests and diseases. Peptaibiotics, a family of linear, membrane-active, amphipathic polypeptides, have been shown to exhibit antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral activity, and to be inducers of plant resistance against a wide range of phytopathogens. Peptaibiotics belong to the new generation of alternatives to agrochemicals, aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the One Health approach toward ensuring global food security and safety.

Peptaibols are non-ribosomal linear peptides naturally produced by a wide variety of fungi and represent the largest group of peptaibiotic molecules produced by species. Trichogin GA IV is an 11-residue peptaibol naturally produced by . Peptaibols possess the ability to form pores in lipid membranes or perturb their surface, and have been studied as antibiotics or anticancer drugs in human medicine, or as antimicrobial molecules against plant pathogens.

Malaria remains a worldwide threat, afflicting over 200 million people each year. The emergence of drug resistance against existing therapeutics threatens to destabilize global efforts aimed at controlling spp. parasites, which is expected to leave vast portions of humanity unprotected against the disease.
