A decline in diversity from the equator to the poles is a common feature of Earth's biodiversity. Here, we examine body shape diversity in marine fishes across latitudes and explore the role of time and evolutionary rate in explaining the diversity gradient. Marine fishes' occupation of upper latitude environments has increased substantially over the last 80 million years.

If the past century marked the birth of membrane transport as a focus for research in plants, the past 50 years has seen the field mature from arcane interest to a central pillar of plant physiology. Ion transport across plant membranes accounts for roughly 30% of the metabolic energy consumed by a plant cell, and it underpins virtually every aspect of plant biology, from mineral nutrition, cell expansion, and development to auxin polarity, fertilization, plant pathogen defense, and senescence. The means to quantify ion flux through individual transporters, even single channel proteins, became widely available as voltage clamp methods expanded from giant algal cells to the fungus Neurospora crassa in the 1970s and the cells of angiosperms in the 1980s.

Skin diseases are hallmarks of progressive HIV-related immunosuppression, with severe noninfectious inflammatory and hypersensitivity conditions as common as opportunistic infections. Conditions such as papular pruritic eruption are AIDS defining, whereas delayed immune-mediated adverse reactions, mostly cutaneous, occur up to 100-fold more during HIV infection. The skin, constantly in contact with the external environment, has a complex immunity.

Polycrystalline LiMoO was prepared in a sealed Mo crucible at 1380 °C for 48 h using the conventional high-temperature solid-state method. The polar tetragonal crystal structure (space group 4) is confirmed based on the Rietveld refinement of powder neutron diffraction and Li/Li solid-state NMR. The crystal structure features infinite chains of MoO (i.
