In the current paper, a NiO nanoparticles-loaded mesoporous carbon (CMK-3) catalyst, denoted as NiO/CMK-3, has been successfully synthesized using a facile strategy. The as-prepared material has been characterized through XRD, Raman spectroscopy, low-temperature N physisorption measurements, FTIR, FE-SEM, TEM, and XPS. The as-fabricated NiO/CMK-3 catalyst manifested a superior activity in the NaBH-assisted reduction of methylene blue (MB) dye to its colorless leuco form. Remarkably, over 99% of 25 mg L MB was reduced by 7.5 mM/L NaBH using 0.1 g L NiO/CMK-3 within 3 min at room temperature. Furthermore, the kinetics study confirmed the appropriateness of the pseudo-first-order kinetic model for elucidating the kinetics of MB reduction by the catalyst. Importantly, the NiO/CMK-3 catalyst maintained almost constant catalytic activity even after 5 times of reuse in MB reduction, demonstrating its superior stability and reusable ability. So, NiO/CMK-5 appears as a promising heterogeneous catalyst for the effective remediation of dye-containing wastewater.

Porous carbonaceous materials simultaneously dispersing N, Fe and Co as bifunctional catalysts for the ORR and OER: electrochemical performance in a prototype of a Zn-air battery.

Grupo de Investigación Ciencia de los Materiales, Instituto de Química, Facultad de Ciencias Exactas y Naturales, Universidad de Antioquia, Calle 70 No 52 - 21, Medellín, Antioquia, 050010, Colombia.

Infiltration of the mesoporous structure of SBA-15 silica as a hard template with phenanthroline complexes of Fe and Co allowed the simultaneous dispersion of nitrogen, iron and cobalt species on the surface of the obtained carbonaceous CMK-3 silica replica, with potential as bifunctional heterogeneous catalysts for the cathodic oxygen reduction and evolution reactions (ORR and OER). The textural properties and mesopore structure depended on the composition of the material. The carbonaceous FeCoNCMK-3 (1/1), obtained with an Fe/Co molar ratio of 1/1, exhibited an ordered cylindrical mesoporous structure with a high mesopore volume, a rather homogeneous composition in terms of total and surface concentrations of iron and cobalt, and a balanced presence of pyridinic-, pyrrolic- and graphitic-N species.

Lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries show advantage of high theoretical capacity. However, the shuttle effect of polysulfides and sluggish sulfur redox kinetics seriously reduce their service life. Inspired by the porous structural features of biomass materials, herein, a functional interlayer is fabricated by silkworm excrement-derived three-dimensional porous carbon accommodating nano sized CoS particles (SC@CoS ).

Reductive Fractionation of Flax Shives in Ethanol Medium over RuNi Bimetallic Catalysts.

Int J Mol Sci

July 2023

Institute of Chemistry and Chemical Technology, Krasnoyarsk Science Center, Siberian Branch, Russian Academy of Sciences, Akademgorodok 50, Bld. 24, 660036 Krasnoyarsk, Russia.

The reductive catalytic fractionation of flax shives in the presence of bimetallic NiRu catalysts supported on oxidized carbon materials (CM) such as mesoporous Sibunit and carbon mesostructured by KAIST (CMK-3) was studied. The catalysts based on CMK-3 were characterized by a higher surface area (1216 m/g) compared to the ones based on Sibunit (315 m/g). The catalyst supported on CMK-3 (10Ni3RuC400) was characterized by a more uniform distribution of Ni particles, in contrast to the Sibunit-based catalyst (10Ni3RuS450), on the surface of which large agglomerated particles (300-400 nm) were presented.

The design of a micro-/nanoreactor is of great significance for catalytic ozonation, which can achieve effective mass transfer and expose powerful reaction species. Herein, the mesoporous carbon with atomic Fe-N sites embedded in the ordered carbon nanochannels (Fe-N/CMK-3) was synthesized by the hard-template method. Fe-N/CMK-3 can be employed as nanoreactors with preferred electronic and geometric catalytic microenvironments for the internal catalytic ozonation of CHSH.
