Characterizing electric fields in semiconductor devices using electric field-induced second-harmonic generation (EFISHG) has opened new opportunities for an advanced device design. However, this new technique still has challenges due to the interference between background second-harmonic generation (SHG) and EFISHG generated light. We demonstrate that interference effects can effectively be eliminated during EFISHG measurements by focusing the laser from the transparent substrate side of a GaN PN diode, enabling straightforward quantitative electric field analysis, in contrast to PN junction interface side measurements. A model based on wave generation and propagation is proposed and highlights the incoherence between background SHG and EFISHG light. This incoherence may be attributed to the depth of focus of the incident laser and phase mismatch between incident and SHG light.

Plasmonic materials can be utilized as effective platforms to enhance luminescent signals of luminescent metal nanoclusters (LMNCs). Both surface enhanced fluorescence (SEF) and shell-isolated nanoparticle-enhanced fluorescence (SHINEF) strategies take advantage of the localized and increased external electric field created around the plasmonic metal surface when excited at or near their characteristic plasmonic resonance. In this context, we present an experimental and computational study of different plasmonic composites, (Ag) Ag@SiO2 and (Au) Au@SiO2 nanoparticles, which were used to enhance the luminescent signal of Au nanoclusters coated with glutathione (GSH) molecule (Au25GSH NCs).

Efficacy of Segmentation for Hyperspectral Target Detection.

Sensors (Basel)

January 2025

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Beer Sheva blvd 1, Beer-Sheva 84105, Israel.

Algorithms for detecting point targets in hyperspectral imaging commonly employ the spectral inverse covariance matrix to whiten inherent image noise. Since data cubes often lack stationarity, segmentation appears to be an attractive preprocessing operation. Surprisingly, the literature reports both successful and unsuccessful segmentation cases, with no clear explanations for these divergent outcomes.

With the demand for high-safety, high-integration, and lightweight micro- and nano-electronic components, an MEMS electromagnetic energy-releasing component was innovatively designed based on the corona discharge theory. The device subverted the traditional device-level protection method for electromagnetic energy, realizing the innovation of adding a complex circuit system to the integrated chip through micro-nanometer processing technology and enhancing the chip's size from the centimeter level to the micron level. In this paper, the working performance of the MEMS electromagnetic energy-releasing component was verified through a combination of a simulation, a static experiment, and a dynamic test, and a characterization test of the tested MEMS electromagnetic energy-releasing component was carried out to thoroughly analyze the effect of the MEMS electromagnetic energy-releasing component.

Delay/Disruption Tolerant Networking Performance Characterization in Cislunar Relay Communication Architecture.

Sensors (Basel)

January 2025

Phillip M. Drayer Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Lamar University, Beaumont, TX 77710, USA.

Future 7G/8G networks are expected to integrate both terrestrial Internet and space-based networks. Space networks, including inter-planetary Internet such as cislunar and deep-space networks, will become an integral part of future 7G/8G networks. Vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication networks will also be a significant component of 7G/8G networks.

Because of their resilience, Time-of-Flight (ToF) cameras are now essential components in scientific and industrial settings. This paper outlines the essential factors for modeling 3D ToF cameras, with specific emphasis on analyzing the phenomenon known as "wiggling". Through our investigation, we demonstrate that wiggling not only causes systematic errors in distance measurements, but also introduces periodic fluctuations in statistical measurement uncertainty, which compounds the dependence on the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR).
