The prevalence of peripheral arterial disease and the number of revascularization procedures performed in symptomatic patients are steadily increasing. However, uncertainties remain regarding hemodynamic monitoring after revascularization and the prediction of clinical outcomes. This study aimed to investigate hemodynamic parameters with a focus on the microvasculature. This prospective, single-center study included 29 patients (15 with intermittent claudication [IC] and 14 with chronic limb-threatening ischemia [CLTI]). Before and after the revascularization procedure, in addition to the ankle-brachial index (ABI), microperfusion parameters, including microvascular blood flow, capillary oxygen saturation (SO), and relative hemoglobin content (rHb), were assessed with lightguide spectrophotometry combined with laser Doppler flowmetry using an oxygen-to-see (O2C) device in the horizontal and elevated leg positions. At baseline, SO in the elevated leg position was significantly lower in patients with CLTI than in those with IC ( = 0.0189), whereas the other microcirculatory parameters and ABI values were not significantly different. Patients with diabetes mellitus had a higher flow rate than those without in the horizontal leg position ( = 0.0162) but not in the elevated leg position. After successful revascularization, the flow increased immediately and significantly in both positions, whereas SO, rHb, and the ABI did not. Elevated leg SO was significantly lower in CLTI than in clinically compensated peripheral arterial disease, whereas microvascular flow was a suitable surrogate parameter indicating successful revascularization. In studies using surgical or interventional revascularization procedures, noninvasive hemodynamic monitoring of the microcirculation at the foot level might be beneficial.

This study aimed to quantitatively evaluate peripheral nerve injury (PNI) after varicose vein (VV) surgery using endovenous laser ablation (EVLA). Overall, 25 cases were analyzed. All patients underwent EVLA of the great saphenous vein (GSV) with or without resection of the varix of the GSV tributaries in stab and avulsion fashion (microphlebectomy).

The effects of triathlon exercise on cardiac function are well documented. While Olympic triathlon (swim-bike-run) remains the standard format, increasing concerns about water quality in natural waterways present ongoing challenges for open-water swimming events, highlighting the potential need to consider alternative formats such as duathlon (run-bike-run) in some circumstances. An additional run may increase the overall metabolic and cardiovascular demand compared with the swim in triathlon, leading to reduced future performance.

Background: Magnetic therapy has demonstrated beneficial effects for reducing pain, nausea, neuropathy, and various other health concerns in the human body. To our knowledge, limited research has documented the use of auricular static magnetic therapy as a potential treatment for diabetes. This report presents the first evidence of using magnetic discs placed at acupuncture points on the human ear to decrease blood glucose levels and promote the healing of gangrene in diabetic patients.

In order to investigate the clinical manifestations and laboratory findings associated with brucellosis for the purpose of facilitating prompt clinical diagnosis and effective treatment, as well as to offer a laboratory reference for the prevention of brucellosis outbreaks. In this study, a retrospective cohort design was employed to gather epidemiological characteristics, clinical symptoms, and associated laboratory data from 391 patients diagnosed with bacterial culture-positive brucellosis at the People's Hospital of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region between 2019 and 2023. The patients were categorized into four age groups, with each group representing a 20 years age interval.

Background: Recently, it has been reported that older adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) have lower skeletal muscle mass than healthy individuals. Although skeletal muscle mass in older adults with diabetes is occasionally reported, similar reports on young to middle-aged adults are limited.
Objective: This study aims to assess the prevalence of skeletal muscle loss in young to middle-aged adults with diabetes, examine the relationship between skeletal muscle loss and physical function in these patients, and examine whether there are differences in these characteristics between men and women.
