We report on the use of a simple, bench-stable [Fe(salen)]-μ-oxo precatalyst in the reduction of nitro compounds. The reaction proceeds at room temperature across a range of substrates, including nitro aromatics and aliphatics. By changing the reducing agent from pinacol borane (HBpin) to phenyl silane (HSiPh), we can chemoselectively reduce nitro compounds while retaining carbonyl functionality. Our mechanistic studies, which include kinetics, electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), mass spectrometry, and quantum chemistry, indicate the presence of a nitroso intermediate and the generation of an on-cycle iron hydride as a key catalytic intermediate. Based on this mechanistic insight, we were able to extend the chemistry to hydroamination and identified a simple substrate feature (alkene lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) energy) that could be used to predict which alkenes would result in productive catalysis.

A smartphone-integrated colorimetric sensor is introduced for the rapid detection of phenolic compounds, including 8-hydroquinone (HQ), p-nitrophenol (NP), and catechol (CC). This sensor relies on the peroxidase-mimicking activity of aspartate-based metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) such as Cu-Asp, Ce-Asp, and Cu/Ce-Asp. These MOFs facilitate the oxidation of a colorless substrate, 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB), by reactive oxygen species (ROS) derived from hydrogen peroxide (HO), resulting in the formation of blue-colored oxidized TMB (ox-TMB).

Background: Chronic anal fissures (CAFs) are the second most common anorectal disease. Non-surgical treatment includes several options with controversial efficacy. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of a new ointment based on methylene blue in addition to glyceryl trinitrate.

Herein, we present an efficient and practical method for multicomponent carbo-heterofunctionalization of alkenes radical-polar crossover photoredox catalysis. Employing geminal bromonitroalkanes as redox-active reagents with a wide range of O-centered nucleophiles allows rapid access to various 1,3-difunctionalized nitro compounds, including β-nitro ketones, 1,3-nitro alcohols, 1,3-nitro ethers as well as cyclic molecules.

This study was aimed to identify the most frequently observed pathogens in uncomplicated urinary tract infections from outpatient urinary isolates obtained across seven different geographical regions in Türkiye and to determine whether the antibiotic resistance rates of these pathogens differ significantly between these regions. The study included patients aged 18 to 65 years who were diagnosed with uncomplicated urinary tract infections and had positive urine cultures from March 2021 to August 2022, across 37 different centers in Türkiye. The participating centers were selected based on their use of the disk diffusion method, in line with the European Committee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing (EUCAST) guidelines, to ensure standardization of urine culture data.

is increasingly resistant to antibiotics, significantly lowering eradication rates and posing a major public health challenge. This study investigated the distribution of antibiotic-resistant phenotypes and genotypes of in Hainan Province. It determined the minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of six antibiotics using the E-test method and detected resistance genes via Sanger sequencing.
