A Gram-negative, non-motile, and creamy-white coloured bacterium, designated CAU 1616, was isolated from sea sand collected at Ayajin Beach, Goseong-gun, Republic of Korea. The bacterium was found to grow optimally at 37 °C, pH 8.0-8.5, and with 1-5 % (w/v) NaCl. Phylogenetic analyses based on the 16S rRNA gene sequences placed strain CAU 1616 within the order . The highest 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity was to YIM D812 (94.1 %), YIM D82 (93.7 %), BA45AL (93.6 %) and HHTR 118 (92.3 %). Comparing strain CAU 1616 with closely related species ( YIM D812 and YIM D82), the average nucleotide identity based on blast+ values were 69.7-69.8 %, the average amino acid identity values were 61.3-61.4 %, and the digital DNA-DNA hybridization values were 18.4-18.5 %. The assembled draft genome of strain CAU 1616 had 29 contigs with an N50 value of 385.8 kbp, a total length of 3 490 371 bp, and a DNA G+C content of 65.1 mol%. The predominant cellular fatty acids were C 2-OH, C cyclo 8, and summed feature 8 (C 6 and/or C 7). The major respiratory quinone was Q-10. Based on phenotypic, phylogenetic, and chemotaxonomic evidence, strain CAU 1616 represents a novel genus in the family , for which the name gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is CAU 1616 (=KCTC 82428=MCCC 1K06089).

Low-Cost and Lightweight 3D-Printed Split-Ring Resonator for Chemical Sensing Applications.

Sensors (Basel)

September 2018

School of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, College of Engineering, Chung-Ang University, 221, Heukseok-Dong, Dongjak-Gu, Seoul 156-756, Korea.

In this paper, a microwave cavity resonator is presented for chemical sensing applications. The proposed resonator is comprised of a three dimensional (3D) split-ring resonator (SRR) residing in an external cavity and capacitively coupled by a pair of coaxial probes. 3D-printing technology with polylactic acid (PLA) filament is used to build the 3D SRR and cavity.

Since early 2016, the Chinese goose industry has experienced severe outbreaks of gout; however, the etiological factor of the disease is still unclear. Here, we investigated the possible involvement of viral infection in the disease. Using sequence-independent PCR amplification, astrovirus sequences were generated from a gout case.

July 2018

School of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Chung-Ang University, Heukseok-Dong, Dongjak-Gu, 156-756, Republic of Korea.

Metasurfaces, owing to their attractive features, provide a wide range of potential applications. Electromagnetic absorbers based on metasurfaces have significantly improved responses compared to the earlier absorbers made from composite materials. Active metasurfaces, in contrast to the passive designs, can exhibit multifunctional characteristics without repeated fabrication.
