Objectives: The purpose of the present study was to verify if performance in the 6-min walking test (6MWT) during the preoperative evaluation phase is associated with the development of cardiopulmonary postoperative complications in patients who underwent uniportal VATS (U-VATS) for lung cancer.

Methods: This retrospective, monocentric study included patients submitted to U-VATS anatomical lung resections (March 2022-December 2023). The patients were enrolled in a preoperative rehabilitation program carried out 15 days before surgery.

Article Synopsis
  • Occupational exposure to irritants leads to poor asthma control, but the long-term effects on irritant-induced occupational asthma (IIA) patients are not well understood.
  • A study evaluated 28 IIA patients years after diagnosis, measuring lung function, bronchial responsiveness, inflammation, and exercise capacity, revealing that many still had poor asthma control despite normal lung function.
  • While most participants showed a slight improvement in asthma control over time, reduced physical capacity was prevalent and linked to inadequate symptom management and heavy medication use.*

Background: The isometric exercise performed using the handgrip (HG) acutely promotes elevation of systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP), and in a non-consensual manner among articles elevation or maintenance of heart rate (HR). Currently, although there is a vast literature on the hemodynamic effects of interval training and isometric exercise with HG alone, there is still no consistent evidence of such adjustments occurring in the association between the two. Therefore, the objective of this study was to describe the acute hemodynamic responses found only during interval training and when combined with isometric contraction with HG.

Instituto de Biofísica Carlos Chagas Filho, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro 21941-902, RJ, Brazil.

Article Synopsis
  • * Findings show significant reductions in oxygen consumption and cardiac function, with specific declines in heart rate, left ventricular performance, and increased cardiac stress markers.
  • * The results emphasize the need for monitoring MeHg levels and conducting regular cardiac assessments in populations exposed to environmental contamination.
