AI techniques are increasingly being used to identify individuals both offline and online. However, quantifying their effectiveness at scale and, by extension, the risks they pose remains a significant challenge. Here, we propose a two-parameter Bayesian model for exact matching techniques and derive an analytical expression for correctness (κ), the fraction of people accurately identified in a population.

Associations of aldehyde exposure with serum uric acid and hyperuricemia among U.S. adults from NHANES 2013-2014.

Heliyon

December 2024

Key Laboratory of Cardiovascular Epidemiology & Department of Epidemiology, State Key Laboratory of Cardiovascular Disease, Fuwai Hospital, National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, Beijing, 100037, China.

Background: Aldehyde is a kind of important environmental pollutant, which has been demonstrated to be associated with increased risks of various chronic diseases with the economic and social development. However, the effects of aldehydes on serum uric acid (SUA) and hyperuricemia remained inexplicit, and the potential mediating pathways for this relationship needed to be addressed.

Methods: This study investigated the associations of individual and mixed aldehydes with SUA and hyperuricemia among 1588 U S.

BACT: nonparametric Bayesian cell typing for single-cell spatial transcriptomics data.

Brief Bioinform

November 2024

Institute of Statistics and Big Data, Renmin University of China, No. 59 Zhongguancun Street, 100872 Beijing, China.

The spatial transcriptomics is a rapidly evolving biological technology that simultaneously measures the gene expression profiles and the spatial locations of spots. With progressive advances, current spatial transcriptomic techniques can achieve the cellular or even the subcellular resolution, making it possible to explore the fine-grained spatial pattern of cell types within one tissue section. However, most existing cell spatial clustering methods require a correct specification of the cell type number, which is hard to determine in the practical exploratory data analysis.

White Matter Imaging Phenotypes Mediate the Negative Causality of Mitochondrial DNA Copy Number on Sleep Apnea: A Bidirectional Mendelian Randomization Study and Mediation Analysis.

Nat Sci Sleep

December 2024

Department of Orthodontics, School and Hospital of Stomatology, Cheeloo College of Medicine, Shandong University, Jinan, Shandong, People's Republic of China.

Purpose: Sleep apnea (SA), associated with absent neural output, is characterised by recurrent episodes of hypoxemia and repeated arousals during sleep, resulting in decreased sleep quality and various health complications. Mitochondrial DNA copy number (mtDNA-CN), an easily accessible biomarker in blood, reflects mitochondrial function. However, the causal relationship between mtDNA-CN and SA remains unclear.
