The 2018 Osaka earthquake caused severe damage to the National Cerebral and Cardiovascular Center, and the interruption to the delivery of hospital food in particular had a significant effect on patients with left ventricular assist devices (LVAD). We retrospectively assessed 10 patients who had been provided with emergency rations on the day of earthquake and the next day for breakfast. Catered foods were provided thereafter. Vitamin K content was largely reduced due to emergency rations; the prothrombin time-international normalized ratio (PT-INR) on day 2 was significantly higher than on day 1. Close monitoring of PT-INR and assessing vitamin K content may be important for preventing complications in patients with a LVAD during a disaster.

Intravascular Imaging as a Performance Measure for Percutaneous Coronary Intervention.

Circ Cardiovasc Interv

January 2025

Division of Cardiology, Department of Medicine, University of Washington Medical Center, Seattle (E.J.S., T. Salahuddin, J.A.D.).

Background: Intravascular imaging (IVI) is widely recognized to improve outcomes after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). However, IVI is underutilized and is not yet established as a performance measure for quality PCI.

Methods: We examined temporal trends of IVI use for all PCIs performed at Veterans Affairs hospitals in the United States from 2010 to 2022 using retrospective observational cohorts.

This study was performed according to the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta- Analyses) guidelines. PubMed and Medline databases were searched in October 2023 for studies reporting outcomes of arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction and stable medial meniscal ramp lesion treatment. Studies focused on diagnostic approaches, biomechanical properties, unstable ramp lesions, isolated ramp lesions, and concomitant intraarticular/extraarticular pathologies other than ACL rupture are excluded.

Collecting duct carcinoma (CDC), also known as Bellini duct carcinoma, is a rare malignancy with significant challenges in early diagnosis. This paper presents a case report of CDC that was misdiagnosed as renal abscess on computed tomography (CT). A 49-year-old male patient was admitted to the hospital with bilateral lumbar pain, exacerbated on the left side, accompanied by hematuria.

Purpose: To evaluate the identification of nasal bone fractures and their clinical diagnostic significance for three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction of maxillofacial computed tomography (CT) images by applying artificial intelligence (AI) with deep learning (DL).

Methods: CT maxillofacial 3D reconstruction images of 39 patients with normal nasal bone and 43 patients with nasal bone fracture were retrospectively analysed, and a total of 247 images were obtained in three directions: the orthostatic, left lateral and right lateral positions. The CT scan images of all patients were reviewed by two senior specialists to confirm the presence or absence of nasal fractures.

Background: Areas of conduction disorders play an important role in both initiation and perpetuation of AF and can be recognized by specific changes in unipolar potential morphology. For example, EGM fractionation may be caused by asynchronous activation of adjacent cardiomyocytes because of structural barriers such as fibrotic strands. However, it is unknown whether there are sex differences in unipolar potential morphology.
