Fe(II) carboxylates react with dioxygen and carboxylic acid to form Fe(μ-OH)(μ-O)(μ-X)(HX) (X = acetate or pivalate), which is an active oxidant for Rh-catalyzed arene alkenylation. Heating (150-200 °C) the catalyst precursor [(η-CH)Rh(μ-OAc)] with ethylene, benzene, Fe(II) carboxylate, and dioxygen yields styrene >30-fold faster than the reaction with dioxygen in the absence of the Fe(II) carboxylate additive. It is also demonstrated that Fe(μ-OH)(μ-O)(μ-X)(HX) is an active oxidant under anaerobic conditions, and the reduced material can be reoxidized to Fe(μ-OH)(μ-O)(μ-X)(HX) by dioxygen. At optimized conditions, a turnover frequency of ∼0.2 s is achieved. Unlike analogous reactions with Cu(II) carboxylate oxidants, which undergo stoichiometric Cu(II)-mediated production of phenyl esters (e.g., phenyl acetate) as side products at temperatures ≥150 °C, no phenyl ester side product is observed when Fe carboxylate additives are used. Kinetic isotope effect experiments using CH and CD give / = 3.5(3), while the use of protio or monodeutero pivalic acid reveals a small KIE with / = 1.19(2). First-order dependencies on Fe(II) carboxylate and dioxygen concentration are observed in addition to complicated kinetic dependencies on the concentration of carboxylic acid and ethylene, both of which inhibit the reaction rate at a high concentration. Mechanistic studies are consistent with irreversible benzene C-H activation, ethylene insertion into the formed Rh-Ph bond, β-hydride elimination, and reaction of Rh-H with Fe(μ-OH)(μ-O)(μ-X)(HX) to regenerate a Rh-carboxylate complex.

This study details the development and evaluation of sodium alginate-Poly(acrylonitrile-co-styrene)/ Carbon Nanotubes (SA-M*Poly(AN-co-ST)/CNTs) composite beads serve as a highly effective adsorbent for the removal of Fe(II) ions from water solutions. The composite was prepared through the modification and functionalization of poly(acrylonitrile-co-styrene) copolymer with carboxylic acid groups, Subsequently, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and sodium alginate were integrated to create sturdy gel beads. The composite beads were characterized using SEM, FTIR, and BET surface analysis spectroscopy, revealing a specific surface area of 127.

Reaction of an Fe(II) complex, [Fe(6-COO-tpa)] (), with PhE and NO produced [Fe(6-COO-tpa)(EPh)] (E = S, ; Se, ) and [Fe(6-COO-tpa)κO,O'-NO)] (), respectively (6-COOH-tpa is bis(2-pyridylmethyl)(6-carboxyl-2-pyridylmethyl)amine). Treatment of with 2 equiv of PhEH (E = S, Se) produced NO in ∼40% yields, respectively, along with and the DNICs, [Fe(EPh)(NO)] (E = S, Se). Treatment of with excess PhEH produced NO in similar yields, while was converted to the same DNICs and / (instead of ).

Advanced reduction processes (ARPs) have become hotspot because of their fast and efficient features in pollutant treatment. In this study, a novel ARP was raised through the assistance of biological wastewater degradation solutions (PDs), to completely reduce Cr(VI). Enterobacter cloacae YN-4, which could completely degrade 1500 mg/L phenol within 72 h, was isolated and identified.

Intracellular pathogens can survive inside the macrophages to protect themselves from eradication by the innate immune system and conventional antibiotics, resulting in severe bacterial infections. In this work, an antibiotic-free nanocomplex (HA/GA-Fe@NO-DON), exhibiting macrophage-targeted synergistic gas therapy (nitric oxide, NO)/chemodynamic therapy/immunotherapy, was reported. HA/GA-Fe nanoparticles were synthesized by the strong coordination interactions among carboxyl groups of hyaluronic acid (HA), polyphenol groups of gallic acid (GA), and Fe(II) ions.
