Massive bleeding and bacterial infection of wounds may be life-threatening or even lead to death. Nowadays, gelatin-based hemostatic sponges have been widely used, but gelatin is not antibacterial and has poor structural stability. In this study, we mixed an antibacterial polypeptide, ε-poly-L-lysine (EPL), into gelatin.

Article Synopsis
  • Biofilms, which are multicellular bacterial communities embedded in an extracellular matrix, enhance bacterial survival and contribute to severe infections due to their increased antibiotic resistance.
  • Quorum sensing plays a critical role in biofilm production, making it essential to develop new strategies to combat biofilm-related infections, particularly for conditions like post-surgery and wound infections.
  • Plant extracts and purified phytochemicals have shown significant potential in inhibiting biofilm formation and may serve as promising agents in treating infections caused by biofilms.

Soil is one of the most important reservoirs of antibiotic resistance, global threat that needs to be addressed with the One Health approach. Despite urban parks playing a fundamental role in urban ecosystems, the diffusion, maintenance, and human impact of antibiotic-resistance genes in this substrate are still poorly addressed. To fill in this gap, we adopted a molecular and culturomics approach to study antibiotic resistance in urban parks, accounting for the environmental matrix and the level of urbanization.

Peptide-based vaccine design against Hendra virus through immunoinformatics approach.

Vet Immunol Immunopathol

December 2024

Department of Biochemistry, Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan 66000, Pakistan. Electronic address:

The Hendra virus (HeV) has resulted in epidemics of respiratory and neurological illnesses in animals. Humans have contracted diseases with high fatality rates as a result of infected domestic animals, but effective vaccinations and therapies are currently not available against HeV. Herein, we analyzed the proteome of HeV and constructed an effective and innovative multi-epitope vaccine using immunoinformatics techniques.
