Background: The medial epicanthal fold is a common ethnic trait in East Asian faces, and there is a significant demand for its correction for cosmetic reasons. Numerous epicanthoplasty techniques have been proposed; however, visible scarring and unnatural canthal shapes have been challenges. This study aimed to introduce a simpler approach for medial epicanthoplasty to address these issues and evaluate its outcomes.

Objective: Toric intraocular lens implantation has been used to correct corneal astigmatism during cataract surgery. The study aimed to compare the visual outcomes between manual vs markerless toric intraocular lens implantation in astigmatic correction.
Methods: The medical records of patients at American Eye Center who underwent phacoemulsification by multiple surgeons with insertion of monofocal or multifocal toric lenses via manual marking and markerless method from 2010-2019 were reviewed.

Photoacoustic imaging offers optical contrast images of human tissue at acoustic resolution, making it valuable for diverse clinical applications. However, quantifying tissue composition via optical contrast remains challenging due to the unknown light fluence within the tissue. Here, we propose a method that leverages known chromophores (, arterial blood) to improve the accuracy of quantitative photoacoustic imaging.

Electron energy-loss spectroscopy (EELS) performed in a scanning transmission electron microscope (STEM) is susceptible to noise, just like every other measurement. EELS measurements are also affected by signal blurring, related to the energy distribution of the electron beam and the detector point spread function (PSF). Moreover, the signal blurring caused by the detector introduces correlation effects, which smooth the noise.
