An x-ray multilayer mirror on a spherical substrate designed for near-normal incidence with a photon energy of ∼738 eV (F Heα) was procured and tested. This device is intended to be used for in-flight radiography of the shell in inertial confinement fusion experiments with cryogenic targets on the OMEGA laser at the Laboratory for Laser Energetics. Experiments in self-emission on a small (∼10 J) laser system showed that the reflectivity of the mirror is high enough to record an image at laser energies as low as 0.1 J. A second set of tests in backlighting geometry on a larger (kJ)-scale, short-pulse laser yielded usable radiographs with laser energies as low as 40 J with a spatial resolution of ∼10 μm.

This study shows the efficiency of WH-C450, an adsorbent obtained from water hyacinth (WH) biomass, in the removal of sulfamethoxazole (SMX) from aqueous solutions. The process involves calcination of WH at 450 °C to produce an optimal adsorbent material capable of removing up to 73% of SMX and maximum SMX adsorption capacity of 132.23 mg/g.

Background: Sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL) is associated with abnormal changes in the brain's central nervous system. Previous studies on the brain networks of SSNHL have primarily focused on functional connectivity within the brain. However, in addition to functional connectivity, structural connectivity also plays a crucial role in brain networks.

Background: Histotripsy is a non-invasive, non-ionizing, non-thermal focused ultrasound technique. High amplitude short acoustic pulses converge to create high negative pressures that cavitate endogenous gas into a bubble cloud leading to mechanical tissue destruction. In the United States, histotripsy is approved to treat liver tumors under diagnostic ultrasound guidance but in initial clinical cases, some areas of the liver have not been treated due to bone or gas obstructing the acoustic window for targeting.

Calcium phosphates are often used for biomedical applications. Hydroxyapatite, for example, has a wide range of applications because it mimics the mineral component of natural bone. Widespread interest in the catalytic properties of ceria is due to its use in automotive catalytic converters.

Developing thin-film sheets made of oxide-based solid electrolytes is essential for fabricating surface-mounted ultracompact multilayer oxide solid-state batteries. To this end, solid-electrolyte slurry must be optimized for excellent dispersibility. Although oxide-based solid electrolytes for multilayer structures require sintering, high processing temperatures cause problems such as Li-ion volatilization and reactions with graphite anodes.
