Unlabelled: Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a human herpes virus with a worldwide seroprevalence of 60-100%, mainly known to cause severe life-threatening disease in immunocompromised patients. In immunocompetent hosts (IMCh), CMV causes a self-limiting mononucleosis-like infection, and severe pictures are less recognized. We report a case of a previously healthy 62-year-old woman evaluated in the Internal Medicine outpatient clinic for 3 weeks of progressive fatigue, generalised inflammatory arthralgias, hypogastric discomfort and daily persistent fever.

Introduction: Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a virus of the herpesviridae family. CMV infection is associated with increased morbidity and mortality in immunocompromised subjects such as hemodialysis patients and transplant recipients. The aim of our study was to determine the serological status of potential kidney recipients and donors in order to assess the risk of post-transplant CMV infection and disease.

These infections can vertically transmit through the placental barrier, leading to complications in fetal development.

Infections with Cytomegalovirus (CMV), Herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV1) and Toxoplasma gondii (TG) have been implicated in severe mental illness. All three pathogens have high seroprevalence in the human population, are neurotropic and establish a persistent infection. We hypothesized that exposed (seropositive) patients with severe mental illness would show higher immunoglobulin G (IgG) concentrations than exposed healthy controls (HC).

Background: Efforts to understand atherosclerosis, a major cause of ischemic heart disease, have linked several lifestyle factors to increased risk for developing cardiovascular disease. Some studies suggest that cytomegalovirus (CMV), a widely prevalent herpesvirus, is reactivated in atherosclerotic plaques and associated with higher cardiovascular mortality risk. We aimed to explore whether CMV seropositivity and CMV-IgG antibody levels correlate with relevant biomarkers in a cohort of patients with myocardial infarction (MI) and matched controls.
