Promising advances in adsorption technology can lead to energy-efficient solutions in industrial sectors. This work presents precise molecular sieving of xylene isomers in the polymer-metal-oragnic framework (polyMOF), a hybrid porous material derived from the parent isoreticular MOF-1 (IRMOF-1). PolyMOFs are synthesized by polymeric ligands bridged by evenly spaced alkyl chains, showing reduced pore sizes and enhanced stabilities compared to its parent material due to tethered polymer bridge within the pores while maintaining the original rigid crystal lattice. However, the exact configuration of the ligands within the crystals remain unclear, posing hurdles to predicting the adsorption performances of the polyMOFs. This work reveals that the unique pore structure of polyIRMOF-1-7a can discriminate xylene isomers with sub-angstrom size differences, leading to highly selective adsorption of p-xylene over other isomers and alkylbenzenes in complex liquid mixtures (α = 15 and α = 9). The structural details of the polyIRMOF-1-7a are elucidated through computational studies, suggesting a plausible configuration of alkyl chains within the polyMOF crystal, which enable a record-high p-xylene selectivity and stability in liquid hydrocarbon. With this unprecedented molecular selectivity in MOFs, "polymer-MOF" hybridization is expected to meet rigorous requirements for high-standard molecular sieving through precisely tunable and highly stable pores.

The catalytic performance of Candida antarctica lipase B (CALB) immobilized on silica-coated magnetic nanoparticles was evaluated for biodiesel production via methanolysis of rapeseed oil. Two different covalent immobilization approaches were compared to assess the effect of immobilization protocols on lipase efficiency. The first approach involved immobilization of CALB on amine-functionalized magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs), which targeted the Lys-rich regions of the enzyme.

Thermally driven membrane desalination processes have garnered significant interest for their potential in the treatment of hypersaline wastewater. However, achieving high rejection rates for volatiles while maintaining a high water flux remains a considerable challenge. Herein, we propose a thermo-osmosis-evaporation (TOE) system that utilizes molecular intercalation-regulated graphene oxide (GO) as the thermo-osmotic selective permeation layer, positioned on a hydrophobic poly(vinylidene fluoride) fibrous membrane serving as the thermo-evaporation layer.

The development of straightforward synthetic methods for photoactive polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) that avoid Pd-catalyzed or radical-based processes remains a challenge. Such methods are essential to reducing the cost and environmental impact of organic photodevices. In this work, we present a one-pot synthetic approach for creating novel bipolar PAHs with extended π-conjugation, which are not accessible via conventional Pd-catalyzed routes.

Cystic and alveolar echinococcosis are severe zoonotic diseases characterized by long asymptomatic periods lasting months or years. Viable Echinococcus spp. eggs released into the environment through the feces of canids can infect humans through accidental ingestion via hand-to-mouth contact or consumption of contaminated food or water.

The properties and device applications of 2D semiconductors are highly sensitive to intrinsic structural defects due to their ultrathin nature. CuInSe (CIS) materials own excellent optoelectronic properties and ordered copper vacancies, making them widely applicable in photovoltaic and photodetection fields. However, the synthesis of 2D CIS nanoflakes remains challenging due to the nonlayered structure, multielement composition, and the competitive growth of various by-products, which further hinders the exploration of vacancy-related optoelectronic devices.
