The bulk photovoltaic effect (BPVE) in non-centrosymmetric materials has attracted significant attention in recent years due to its potential to surpass the Shockley-Queisser limit. Although these materials are strictly constrained by symmetry, progress has been made in artificially reducing symmetry to stimulate BPVE in wider systems. However, the complexity of these techniques has hindered their practical implementation. In this study, we demonstrate a large intrinsic photocurrent response in centrosymmetric topological insulator AgTe, attributed to the surface photogalvanic effect (SPGE), which is induced by symmetry reduction of the surface. Through diverse spatially-resolved measurements on specially designed devices, we directly observe that SPGE in AgTe arises from the difference between two opposite photocurrent flows generated from the top and bottom surfaces. Acting as an efficient SPGE material, AgTe demonstrates robust performance across a wide spectral range from visible to mid-infrared, making it promising for applications in solar cells and mid-infrared detectors. More importantly, SPGE generated on low-symmetric surfaces can potentially be found in various systems, thereby inspiring a broader range of choices for photovoltaic materials.

Helicity-dependent photocurrent (HDPC) and its modulation in topological insulator BiTe nanowires have been investigated. It is revealed that when the incident plane of a laser is perpendicular to the nanowire, the HDPC is an odd function of the incident angle, which is mainly contributed by the circular photogalvanic effect originating from the surface states of BiTe nanowire. When the incident plane of a laser is parallel to the nanowire, the HDPC is approximately an even function of the incident angle, which is due to the circular photon drag effect coming from the surface states.

Lead halide perovskites (LHPs) containing organic parts are emerging optoelectronic materials with a wide range of applications thanks to their high optical absorption, carrier mobility, and easy preparation methods. They possess spin-dependent properties, such as strong spin-orbit coupling (SOC), and are promising for spintronics. The Rashba effect in LHPs can be manipulated by a magnetic field and a polarized light field.

Topological insulators (TIs) with spin-momentum-locked surface states and considerable spin-to-charge conversion (SCC) efficiency are ideal substitutes for the nonmagnetic layer in the traditional ferromagnetic/nonmagnetic (FM/NM) spintronic terahertz (THz) emitters. Here, the TI/ferrimagnetic structure as an effective polarization tunable THz source is verified by terahertz emission spectroscopy. The emitted THz electric field can be separated into two THz components utilizing their opposite symmetry on pump polarization and the magnetic field.

We suggest a theoretical description of the photogalvanic phenomena arising in superconducting condensates in the field of electromagnetic wave. The ac Hall effect and photon drag are shown to originate from the second-order nonlinear response of superconducting carriers caused by the suppression of their concentration due to the combined influence of the electron-hole asymmetry and charge imbalance generated by the incident electromagnetic wave. Starting from the time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau theory with the complex relaxation constant, we develop a phenomenological description of these phenomena and investigate the resulting behavior of the dc supercurrent and second harmonic induced by microwave radiation incident on a superconductor surface.
