The presence of lead(II) ion poses a significant threat to water systems due to their toxicity and potential health hazards. The detection of Pb ions in contaminated water is very crucial. The ionic liquid functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotubes (IL@MWCNT) nanocomposite was fabricated using ionic liquid (IL) 1-methyl-3-(4-sulfobutyl)-imidazolium chloride and multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) for detection of lead(II) ions. It is a novel method to heterogenize the layer of IL on the surface of MWCNTs. The XPS and FTIR analyses confirm that the ionic liquid is not decomposed during annealing process. Moreover, the XRD analysis shows the presence of MWCNTs and carbon quantum dots (CQDs). The HRTEM results exhibit the aggregation of MWCNTs with IL, and formation of small distorted round shaped flakes of CQDs. Further, the successful heterogenization of IL on the surface of MWCNTs is also confirmed by TGA-DSC analysis. The quenching phenomenon of nanocomposite was observed by UV-Visible spectroscopy. The nanocomposite exhibits high performance for the selective detection of lead(II) ions in comparison to other metal ions. The presence of lead(II) ions eventually reduced the intensity of absorption. A limit of detection (LOD) of 9.16 nM was attained for Pb ions in a concentration range of 0-20 nM.

Isoniazid (INH) and rifampicin (RIF) are the two main drugs used for the management of tuberculosis. They are often used as a fixed drug combination, but their delivery is challenged by suboptimal solubility and physical instability. This study explores the potential of active pharmaceutical ingredient-ionic liquids (API-ILs) to improve the physicochemical and pharmaceutical properties of INH and RIF.

This research investigated the effect modified solvent-shifting method on the formation, ordered structure, and morphology of V-type starch. Ionic liquid (IL) dissolution and hot ethanol aqueous incubation in gradient concentrations from 30 % to 80 % (v/v) were applied to optimize the relative crystallinity of V-type starch. The results showed that this new method worked in producing V-type conformation, and higher ethanol concentration tended to yield V-type starch with higher crystallinity and more disk-like shape structure within the ethanol range of 30-50 % (v/v).

The development of affordable, intelligent dual-separation technology is crucial for the treatment of oil-water mixtures. Pyridinium-based poly(ionic liquid)s (PILs), designed using molecular theory, exhibit unique switching wettability properties, making them ideal for use in both aqueous and oily environments. By prewetting the material's surface with water or oil, the targeted separation of these components becomes feasible.

In this study, a novel imidazolium-based ionic liquid (IL) coating was developed for stir bar sorptive extraction (SBSE) using a sol-gel method. The effects of different counterions, conditioning temperatures and polymer compositions were investigated. The stir bar with bis((trifluoromethyl)sulfonyl) amide 1-butyl-3-(3-(triethoxysilyl)propyl)-1H-imidazol-3-ium showed good mechanical and thermal stability with high resistance to water solubilization.

Context: There has been growing interest in amino acid ionic liquids because of their low-cost synthesis and superior biodegradability and biocompatibility compared to traditional ionic liquids. In this study, we have investigated the structure and dynamics of three ionic liquids consisting of N-butyl N-methyl piperidinium [Pip] cation with amino acid (lysine [Lys], histidine [His], and arginine [Arg]) anions. The radial distribution functions, the spatial distribution functions, and the coordination numbers have been used to analyze the structure in the bulk phase.
