In this viewpoint, we explore Vietnam's health system vulnerabilities and its national response to the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as critical areas of health system resilience, including health financing, workforce distribution, information systems, and governance. While Vietnam achieved early success through strong governance and mass vaccination campaigns, the pandemic revealed weaknesses in resource procurement, workforce imbalance, and limitations of its health information system. There are challenges in ensuring the rapid disbursement of financial resources and reliance on imported medical supplies, which delayed response times.

The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly altered public perceptions of vaccines, particularly among parents. In high-income countries like the United Kingdom (UK) and Australia, factors such as misinformation, the expedited approval process of COVID-19 vaccines and unique local challenges have contributed to vaccine hesitancy, resulting in uneven uptake across various vaccination programs. Despite efforts like school-based influenza vaccination programs in the UK and free influenza vaccines in Australia, vaccination rates continue to decline.

Multi-pathway oxidative stress amplification via controllably targeted nanomaterials for photoimmunotherapy of tumors.

J Nanobiotechnology

January 2025

Yantai Engineering Research Center for Digital Technology of Stomatology, School of Stomatology, Binzhou Medical University, Yantai, 264003, China.

Photoimmunotherapy, which combines phototherapy with immunotherapy, exhibits significantly improved therapeutic effects compared with mono-treatment regimens. However, its use is associated with drawbacks, such as insufficient reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and uneven photosensitizer distribution. To address these issues, we developed a controllable, targeted nanosystem that enhances oxidative stress through multiple pathways, achieving synergistic photothermal, photodynamic, and immunotherapy effects for tumor treatment.

Tuberculosis disease burden in China: a spatio-temporal clustering and prediction study.

Front Public Health

January 2025

Institute of Occupational Health and Environmental Health, School of Public Health, Lanzhou University, Lanzhou, China.

Introduction: The primary aim of this study is to investigate and predict the prevalence and determinants of tuberculosis disease burden in China. Leveraging high-quality data sources and employing a methodologically rigorous approach, the study endeavors to enhance our understanding of tuberculosis control efforts across different regions of China. First, through nationwide spatio-temporal cluster analysis, we summarized the status of tuberculosis burden in various regions of China and explore the differences, thereby providing a basis for formulating more targeted tuberculosis prevention and control policies in different regions; Subsequently, using a time series-based forecasting model, we conducted the first-ever national tuberculosis burden trend forecast to offer scientific guidance for timely adjustments in planning and resource allocation.

Hydrogen production from biomass pyrolysis is attractive since it allows for green hydrogen production through feedstock and thermal conversion. However, the key limiting factors for hydrogen production are the high oxygen content, uneven heating of biomass pellets during the slow heating process, and insufficient depolymerization due to low reaction temperatures (low gas yields and low hydrogen content). To address these challenges, fast pyrolysis of super Arundo in NaOH-NaCO molten salt was carried out in this paper at 450 °C, 550 °C and 650 °C.
