Transforming growth factor β (TGF-β) is a ubiquitous molecule that is extremely conserved structurally and plays a systemic role in human organism. TGF-β is a homodimeric molecule consisting of two subunits joined through a disulphide bond. In mammals, three genes code for TGF-β1, TGF-β2, and TGF-β3 isoforms of this cytokine with a dominating expression of TGF-β1. Virtually, all normal cells contain TGF-β and its specific receptors. Considering the exceptional role of fine balance played by the TGF-β in anumber of physiological and pathological processes in human body, this cytokine may be proposed for use in medicine as an immunosuppressant in transplantology, wound healing and bone repair. TGFb itself is an important target in oncology. Strategies for blocking members of TGF-β signaling pathway as therapeutic targets have been considered. In this review, signalling mechanisms of TGF-β1 action are addressed, and their role in physiology and pathology with main focus on carcinogenesis are described.

Topotactic transformation is an emerging strategy for synthesizing materials with exotic functional properties. In this report, instead of producing new crystals with related structures, we exploited the topotactic transformation phenomenon to spontaneously produce compositionally diverse nanostructures on the transforming substrate. The surface of magnetite nanoparticles (Fe3O4 NPs) is topotactically transformed into maghemite (γ-Fe2O3).

Background: The aim of the study was to examine the significance of plasma Transforming Growth Factor-1/TGF-β1 (TGF-β1) level testing in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) and heart failure.
Methods: A sample of T2DM patients who were hospitalised for dyspnea was chosen between June 2021 and June 2023. Based on the convenience sample approach, 150 cases were screened for the study, and 50 healthy non-diabetic people without cardiac problems who completed physical examinations over the same period were included as a control group.

Objective: To determine whether adjuvant transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) inhibition with pirfenidone (PFD) can mitigate ureteral wall scarring and related complications in a rat model of upper urinary tract ablation with irreversible electroporation (IRE).
Methods: Transmural ablation of the ureter was performed with IRE in 24 rats. Post-IRE, animals were randomly assigned to receive PFD or no drug, followed by euthanasia at 2-, 5-, or 10-days.

Posterior capsule opacification (PCO) is the most common complication after cataract surgery. In this study, we used transforming growth factor beta-2 (TGF-β2)-induced SRA01/04 cells to mimic PCO cell model and explored the functions and underlying mechanisms of specific protein 1 (SP1) in TGF-β2-induced SRA01/04 cell development. MTT assay and EdU assay were carried out to explore the proliferation of SRA01/04 cells.
