The Cu(I)-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition reaction between (NBu)[VO((OCH)CCHN)] and 3-ethynylpyridine led to the formation of products capable of forming poorly soluble coordination compounds with transition metal ions such as Cu(I) and Zn(II). The formation of these poorly soluble phases is an important feature that was used to determine the course of reactions, allowing the selective preparation of symmetric bis-pyridyltriazolyl and asymmetric monopyridyltriazolyl derivatives with relatively high yields and high substrate conversions. The asymmetric compound (NBu)[VO((OCH)CCH-NCH-CHN)((OCH)CCHN)] (V) was utilized in the subsequent "click" postfunctionalization reaction with 1,4-diethynylbenzene, resulting in a covalently bound V-V dimer. This dimeric compound was subjected to scanning probe microscopy studies on gold surfaces, which revealed no electronic coupling between the hexavanadate cores within the dimer upon potential-induced switching. This observation indicates that such dimers and higher-order oligomers composed of polyoxometalate-ligand-polyoxometalate bridges can be exploited as active capacitor/memristor units, relevant to increase the data storage capacity of standard memory devices with innovative molecular switching mechanisms.

Soft nanoforest of metal single atoms for free diffusion catalysis.

Metal single atoms are of increasing importance in catalytic reactions. However, the mass diffusion is yet substantially limited by the confined surface of the support in comparison to homogeneous catalysis. Here, we demonstrate that cylindrical micellar brushes with highly solvated poly(2-vinylpyridine) coronas can immobilize 33 types of metal single atoms with 8.

Dendritic Platinum Nanoparticles Shielded by Pt-S PEGylation as Intracellular Reactors for Bioorthogonal Uncaging Chemistry.

Beyond their classical role as cytotoxics, Platinum (Pt) coordination complexes recently joined the selected group of transition metals capable of performing bioorthogonal reactions in living environments. To minimize their reactivity towards nucleophiles, which limit their catalytic performance, we investigated the use of Pt(0) with different forms, sizes and surface functionalization. We report herein the development of PEGylated Pt nanodendrites with the capacity to activate prodyes and prodrugs in cell culture and in vivo.

In this work, we have explored the metal ion sensing properties of two bisbenzimidazole-based fluorescent probes, that differ in their conformational flexibility, in an aqueous medium. The compound with a flexible methyl spacer (1) experienced blue shifts in its absorption and emission maxima (along with a turn-off response) upon the addition of Hg ions. On the contrary, the compound with a relatively rigid structure (2) showed red shifts in both its absorption and emission maxima (along with a turn-off response) when treated with Hg under similar conditions.

A sensitized dual-response ratiometric fluorescent sensor integrated smartphone platform for accurate discrimination and detection of tetracycline homologues based on N-CDs‒Eu complex.

A sensitized dual-response ratiometric fluorescent sensor integrated smartphone platform for accurate discrimination and detection of tetracycline (TC) homologues was fabricated based on N-CDs-Eu complex. In the sensing system, N-CDs act as a sensitizer of Eu and significantly enhance the fluorescence of TC-Eu complex approximate 40-fold owing to the synergistic effect of antenna effect (AE) and fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET). A paper sensor integrated with a smartphone platform is further fabricated for on-site measurement of TC.

Understanding non-reducible N in the mechanism of Mo-nitrogenase.

School of Chemistry, UNSW Sydney, NSW 2052, Australia.

In my proposed mechanism of Mo-nitrogenase there are two roles for separate N molecules. One N diffuses into the reaction zone between Fe2 and Fe6 where a strategic gallery of H atoms can capture N to form the Fe-bound HNNH intermediate which is then progressively hydrogenated through intermediates containing HNNH, NH and NH entities and then two NH in sequence. The second N can be parked in an N-pocket about 3.
