Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) remains the leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. This review explores the evolving evidence base surrounding ASCVD prevention, particularly regarding nontraditional biomarkers, risk scores, and cardiovascular imaging modalities. Additionally, this review examines cardiovascular risk scores, including the PREVENT and MESA-CHD scores, which incorporate both traditional and nontraditional factors, thereby aspiring to offer a more equitable and precise risk assessment.

Background: Educational disparities in life expectancy in the USA have been documented nationally but have not been comprehensively explored at the county level. Such geographical granularity is necessary for determining how these disparities vary across the country, thus highlighting the populations that could benefit most from increased access to educational support. We aim to estimate life expectancy at age 25 years for US counties from 2000 to 2019 for four educational attainment populations: less than high school, high-school graduate (including certificate of high school equivalency or other alternative credentials), some college (including associate degrees and incomplete college), and college graduate (including graduate and professional degrees).

Cardiac amyloidosis (CA) is a progressive condition resulting from the deposition of amyloid fibrils in the heart, which leads to severe diastolic dysfunction and restrictive cardiomyopathy. The disease has two main subtypes: light-chain and transthyretin (TTR) CA, with the latter subdivided into wild-type and hereditary forms. Despite advances in diagnostic imaging, early detection remains a challenge due to non-specific symptoms that mimic other cardiac conditions.

Background: Extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ECPR) is increasingly used for adults with cardiac arrest (CA) refractory to Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS). Introduction: Effective communication and understanding are imperative for heart transplant (HT) recipients who require lifelong adherence to treatment plans and medications. Whether non-native English speaking (NNES) recipients have inferior outcomes compared to native English-speaking recipients (NES) has not been studied post-HT.
Methods: We reviewed adult HT recipients at Columbia University Irving Medical Center from January 2005 through December 2022 with primary language determined by chart review.
