Ordered oxygen vacancies (OOVs) in perovskites can exhibit long-range order and may be used to direct materials properties through modifications in electronic structures and broken symmetries. Based on the various vacancy patterns observed in previously known compounds, we explore the ordering principles of oxygen-deficient perovskite oxides with O stoichiometry to identify other OOV variants. We performed first-principles calculations to assess the OOV stability on a data set of 50 OOV structures generated from our bespoke algorithm. The algorithm employs uniform planar vacancy patterns on (111) pseudocubic perovskite layers and the approach proves effective for generating stable OOV patterns with minimal computational loads. We find as expected that the major factors determining the stability of OOV structures include coordination preferences of transition metals and elastic penalties resulting from the assemblies of polyhedra. Cooperative rotational modes of polyhedra within the OOV structures reduce elastic instabilities by optimizing the bond valence of - and cations. This finding explains the observed formation of vacancy channels along low-index crystallographic directions in prototypical OOV phases. The identified ordering principles enable us to devise other stable vacancy patterns with longer periodicity for targeted property design in yet to be synthesized compounds.

Conversion of nitrogen (N) to ammonia (NH) is a significant process that occurs in environment and in the field of chemistry, but the traditional NH synthesis method requires high energy and pollutes the environment. In this work, the charge, orbital and spin order of the single-atom Fe loaded on heteroatom (X) doped-MoCS (X = B, N, O, F, P and Se) and its synergistic effect on electrochemical nitrogen reduction reaction (eNRR) were investigated using well-defined density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Results revealed that the X-element modified the charge loss capability of Fe atoms and thereby introduced a net spin through heteroatom doping, resulting in the magnetic moment modulation of Fe.

As an efficient gene editing tool, the CRISPR/Cas9 system has been widely employed to investigate and regulate the biosynthetic pathways of active ingredients in medicinal plants. CRISPR technology holds significant potential for enhancing both the yield and quality of active ingredients in medicinal plants. By precisely regulating the expression of key enzymes and transcription factors, CRISPR technology not only deepens our understanding of secondary metabolic pathways in medicinal plants but also opens new avenues for drug development and the modernization of traditional Chinese medicine.

Two-dimensional (2D) ferromagnetic (FM) semiconductors hold great promise for the next generation spintronics devices. By performing density functional theory first-principles calculations, both CeF and CeFCl monolayers are studied, our calculation results show that CeF is a FM semiconductor with sizable magneto-crystalline anisotropy energy (MAE) and high Curie temperature (290 K), but a smaller band gap and thermal instability indicate that it is not applicable at higher temperature. Its isoelectronic analogue, the CeFCl monolayer, is a bipolar FM semiconductor, its dynamics, elastic, and thermal stability are confirmed, our results demonstrate promising applications of the CeFCl monolayer for next-generation spintronic devices owing to its high Curie temperature (200 K), stable semiconducting features, and stability.

Background: A wide range of school interventions have been launched to increase childrens' physical activity. Evaluation of the effectiveness of interventions requires suitable study designs and feasible quantitative evaluations relating to the school setting. The purpose of this study was to assess the evaluation design and methods for data collection, in order to make decisions about approaching forthcoming studies of the effectiveness of active school travel (AST) interventions.

The monkeypox virus (MPXV), which is a member of the Orthopoxvirus genus in the class Poxviridae, is the causative agent of the zoonotic viral infection MPXV. The disease is similar to smallpox, but it is usually less dangerous. This study examines the evolution of the MPXV epidemic in Canada with an emphasis on the effects of control employing actual data.
