Published: July 2024

We derive a simple formula for the lowest natural frequencies of an infinitely long bubble plume with arbitrary cross section. Expressions are derived in terms of bubble volume fraction and equivalent radius of the plume, and a criterion for the existence of collective modes is established. For the plume with the circular cross section, our analytical approach is validated with the results of previous studies and numerical solution.

This study combines volcanic gas compositions, SO flux and satellite thermal data collected at Nevado del Ruiz between 2018 and 2021. We find the Nevado del Ruiz plume to have exhibited relatively steady, high CO compositions (avg. CO/S ratios of 5.

Infections with COVID-19 in enclosed public spaces, where virus-laden aerosol particles can accumulate over time, have significantly contributed to the rapid spread of the virus. It is therefore of great importance to understand the transport and dispersion process of aerosol particles in such spaces, especially against the background of future pandemics. In this work, we present a Lagrangian-Particle-Tracking experiment to assess the mixed convective flow in a classroom with different ventilation strategies.

Article Synopsis
  • Feedback loops between ice melt, glacier flow, and ocean circulation can significantly speed up ice loss at tidewater glaciers, impacting sea-level rise predictions.
  • Current models of ice melt underestimate melting rates by not accounting for air bubbles trapped in glacier ice, which can lead to errors of 10-100 times compared to actual observations.
  • Laboratory experiments reveal that the bursting of these pressurized bubbles enhances ice melt by introducing buoyancy and turbulence, suggesting that glaciers melt 2.25 times faster than bubble-free ice and improving the accuracy of global sea-level rise forecasts.

Soil and groundwater contamination caused by petroleum hydrocarbons is a severe environmental problem. In this study, a novel electrolyzed catalytic system (ECS) was developed to produce nanobubble-contained electrolyzed catalytic (NEC) water for the remediation of petroleum-hydrocarbon-contaminated soils and groundwater. The developed ECS applied high voltage (220 V) with direct current, and titanium electrodes coated with iridium dioxide were used in the system.
