Scientific evaluation of the effectiveness of ecological restoration could provide support for sustainable management and protection of wetlands. However, due to the multiple and difficult to quantify factors affecting wetlands, commonly used spatiotemporal evaluation methods were difficult to scientifically reflect the actual effectiveness of ecological restoration. This paper took Tianjin Qilihai Wetland, a representative wetland in northern China, as the research object.

Utilizing UAV and orthophoto data with bathymetric LiDAR in google earth engine for coastal cliff degradation assessment.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Department of Geomorphology and Quaternary Geology, Faculty of Oceanography and Geography, University of Gdańsk, Bażyńskiego 4, 80-952, Gdańsk, Poland.

This study introduces a novel methodology for estimating and analysing coastal cliff degradation, using machine learning and remote sensing data. Degradation refers to both natural abrasive processes and damage to coastal reinforcement structures caused by natural events. We utilized orthophotos and LiDAR data in green and near-infrared wavelengths to identify zones impacted by storms and extreme weather events that initiated mass movement processes.

The derivation of water quality criteria (WQC) for antibiotics is influenced by the inclusion of various organisms' toxicity data, including microbial data, though no definitive conclusions have been reached. This study focuses on sulfonamide antibiotics, common in the Yangtze River Delta (YRD), to assess the influences of different organisms' toxicity data on determining WQCs and subsequent evaluation of ecological risks. A total of 263 toxicity data points from eight sulfonamides, including sulfamethoxazole (SMX) and sulfamethazine (SM2), were selected to derive WQCs using Species Sensitivity Distribution (SSD) methods.

Prioritization of climate change mitigation strategies for coastal regions using the Analytic Hierarchy Process.

Mar Pollut Bull

January 2025

Department of Environmental Health Engineering, School of Public Health, Islamic Azad University, Kerman, Iran. Electronic address:

This study utilizes the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to prioritize climate change mitigation strategies for coastal regions systematically. The AHP, a robust data-driven decision-making framework, was employed to evaluate five strategies: Mangrove Restoration, Zoning and Building Codes, Seawalls, Coral Reef Protection, and Relocation Programs. The analysis revealed that Mangrove Restoration emerged as the most effective strategy, achieving the highest score of 0.

The concept of 'resilience' is pervasive, permeating academic disciplines and political discourses. This paper considers (i) the construal of 'resilience' in the contexts of food insecurity and cost-of-living in governmental discourses in the United Kingdom (UK); (ii) to what extent the political representations are reflected in research funding calls of UK national funding bodies, thus showing possibility of shaping research agendas; and (iii) to what extent official uses of 'resilience' reflect lay understandings. We are combining a corpus-based discourse analysis of UK governmental discourses and research funding calls with a study of focus group discussions.
