We demonstrate in a proof-of-concept experiment spectral-domain optical coherence tomography where steering of the optical beam that probes the sample in a transverse scan does not make use of any mechanical element. Steering is done with the help of a phase-only spatial light modulator, that introduces a spatially-dependent phase between the two orthogonal polarization components of an optical beam, and some optical elements that control the polarization of light. We demonstrate that making use of the non-mechanical beam steering system considered here, we can reproduce the main traits of imaging with standard OCT that makes use of mechanical-assisted optical beam steering.

A silica waveguide thermo-optic mode switch with small radius bimodal S-bends is demonstrated in this study. The cascaded multimode interference coupler is adopted to implement the E and E mode selective output. The beam propagation method is used in design optimization.

Background: Klinefelter syndrome is considered one of the most common sex chromosome disorders affecting males. The presence of an extra X chromosome can alter the tendency to develop various cancers, including lymphomas. Lacrimal gland lymphoma is a disease of the elderly, with a median age of presentation of 70 years.

Transmission matrix measurements of multimode fibers are now routinely performed in numerous laboratories, enabling control of the electric field at the distal end of the fiber and paving the way for the potential application to ultrathin medical endoscopes with high resolution. The same concepts are applicable to other areas, such as space division multiplexing, targeted power delivery, fiber laser performance, and the general study of the mode coupling properties of the fiber. However, the process of building an experimental setup and developing the supporting code to measure the fiber's transmission matrix remains challenging and time consuming, with full details on experimental design, data collection, and supporting algorithms spread over multiple papers or lacking in detail.

Objective: To evaluate and compare the accuracy of detection methods for the diagnosis of secondary caries around direct restorations in posterior teeth.
Data: Accuracy parameters including sensitivity, specificity, diagnostic odds ratio (DOR), area under curve (AUC), and partial AUC (pAUC) are generated from studies assessing the accuracy of detection methods for secondary caries.

Transverse mode instability (TMI) significantly limits the power scaling of ytterbium-doped fiber lasers. In this Letter, what we believe to be a novel TMI mitigation strategy is proposed and demonstrated in a bidirectional output fiber laser. On the basis of the continuous wave (CW) pump, integrating a quasi-continuous wave (QCW) pump can effectively improve the TMI threshold of the system.
